Topic Dog Boards / Health / reaction to jab

We took Gus to Vets on Tuesday as he had been licking one of his paws alot over the previous two days . We had checked for cuts, grazes , stones , splinters etc but could see nothing . The vet had a look and said he had dermatitis as one of his pads was slightly red . He gave him an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic jab which he said wuld last about three days . Good news was yes , it seemed to stop Gus licking his paw but today (which was just after the three day period the vet said the jab would last for ) Gus was trembling and shaking . It really scared me and we took him to see the Vet straight away . He checked the normal things - heart rate and temperature and said he just seems to be slightly "sensitive" to the jabs he was given . He gave him another jab and he has been fine - stopped trembling etc but just wanted to know Has anyone elses dog been through the same thing ?
The vet never charged for this second jab and now I am wondering why ???

Hiya lel,
I've heard too much about reactions to jabs!! One of my girls went very itchy and red after her last booster. This happened last year too, but I put it down to an allergy. I'm not so sure now. I've decided not to use conventional treatment anymore unless I have to. I'm going down the homeopathic route in future.
A friends G.S went all shivery after her last booster, and the vet said it was due to the liquid that the drugs were put into!! Not sure I believe that either.
Hope your Gus is O.K.

Sarah.

Thanks Sarah
the second injection seemed to work really fast and I was that much of a nervous wreck I never asked what it was either. :(
I just thought it odd not to charge as you know what vets are normally like with money. He is due his boosters in two months time but this has made me a bit wary

malifan, do you mean your not going to let your dog have boosters anymore?

Hi Shaunie,
Yes they will all have boosters, but they will be homeopathic ones, not conventional.
There's been too many cases of dogs having reactions.

Hi Lel, nope haven`t had that kind of reaction in my dogs, but why don`t you ask the vet what was the anti inflamatory he used? Maybe as well to put in his notes not to use it again on Gus if thats what caused the reaction or maybe it was the a/b that caused it. Either way give him a ring or call in & find out for sure, also what it was he gave him to stop the trembling.
