Topic Dog Boards / Health / Histiocytoma in Golden Retrievers
- By river [gb] Date 19.09.03 12:01 UTC
I have a 4 month old golden who has been diagnosed with a histiocytoma. Does anyone know if they are common in retrievers or a puppy thing? He is booked in to have it removed with surgery next week. Please any help if you know what this is and have any experience with it? I have heard it can be harmless???

Cheers

Histiocytomas are pretty common in retriever youngsters - they usually go away spontaneously anyhow, but can recur even if they are removed surgically. I regard them a bit like verrucas. I think the only real problem is that they can get infected if the dog bothers them.
