Hi
Me and the family have been looking for another kitten to join the family just a normal moggy.
And looking through the ads today i have come across someone selling moggies for £125!
I wonder how people can get away with charging such a price for a price for something that has been crossbred time and time again?
HELEN. :(
we've been looking as well - seems the standard price round here is between 40 and 60 pounds, which i think is far too much for a bog standard moggie with no vaccs etc. My friend bought two from a pet shop the other day for £60 each. I've decided to get a pedigree cat now - i'd rather pay out and know what i am getting and that it's had all possible checks and vaccinations. Just seems a lot to be paying approx £250-£300 for a cat. And the price they charge for crosses as well - these are accidental matings and not pedigrees but they still want loads for them. Oh well - i'll just have to keep looking until i find what i want - fallen in love with norwegian forest cats, so probably end up with one - just got to keep working on my other half lol.

Hi Helen
£125 for a moggie! I see them in my local paper for £15!!!
Have you thought of rescuing a kitten? There are so many unwanted animals out there and having not long ago rescued my staffy dog I think re-homing a pet and giving them a second chance to be happy is a great idea!
Hope you find a kitty soon!

our local rescue has hundreds of kittens for re-homing Helen, have you tried a rescue near you they might have some cheaper :)

Hi
When i read the price , i nearly choked on my coffee ! :D
We have cats , two pedigrees , and a couple of moggies , but i would like another kitten , i think we may well have to approach a rescue , unless of course we decide on another pedigree.
Theres a local CPL near us i think i will give them a ring in the morning , i would so rather the money went to a deserved cause , i am not going to give someone £125 for a moggy.
I have seen pedigrees advertised a little cheaper , shocked at that price for me was an understatement :(

Also check at your vets, mine always has "free to good home" ads on their notice board, and your local newsagents, if it has an ad. board.

i know these sites get bad press but adtrader, loot, findit etc all have kittens for next to nothing
best of luck
mel:)
BLIMEY pure moggy kitten at that price, were they fed from gold bowls??
I have seen an ad for Maine Coon x Norwegian Forest kittens and they wanted £150
I was tempted as I love both those breeds (But I have 2 cats already and they are
semi-longhaired so I'll be patient) :D
But £125 for moggy kittens, I guess the only reasons I can think of other than sheer greed
is perhaps they had a large vet bill and are trying to cover it? or perhaps it is a printing error??
Kittens round our way (Home counties) are anything from £30-60.

I work at a cat rescue and we charge $75 aussie dollars, which is about £30 but that includes sterilisation since all cats that go through us get sterilised when sold. We get more than 10,000 cats and kittens each year and unfortunately many have to be pts because we just don't have the room. Summer will be here soon and so is kitten season so we'll get really busy then. Pretty bad when you have to euthanaise more than 100 cats a day. We deal with loads more cats than RSPCA.
the reason i haven't approached our local rspca cat centre is because 5 years ago we were looking for another kitten, we went to their open day to look round and fill out forms etc. They could see i was pushing a nine month old baby round in a buggy, i filled forms in, they let my 5 yr old daughter choose a kitten then turned round and said oh no you can't have one cos you have children under the age of six - had they not seen the baby before letting jessie choose a kitten?????? I think that was so cruel to my daughter. They then called me a liar when i told them i had a kitten from them when my daughter was 3, saying there was no possible way cos the rule for not letting people have kittens when they have children under the age of 6 had been in force for ten years!!!!! I still had the rspca receipt in doors somewhere but no i could only have an adult cat - although i love cats, i feel that getting a young kitten is more beneficial cos they get used to children, people, noises etc etc. Now jake is 5, so there is no point me asking the rspca cos he isn't 6 yet, but he wants a cat of his own like jess. Therefore i am stuck either paying totally inflated prices for moggies, or buying a pedigree - which is what i think we'll do in the end although the prices are high. I know this sounds silly but i'm willing to pay several hundreds for a pedigree dog but it seems so bad spending hundreds on a pedigree cat, never mind - i'll get a kitten eventually

Helen2003, Hurry up and read Staffiedogs post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOT £125 but £15.
What a bargan. You could get eight and a third cats for the same price.
Thats better value than Tesco's "Buy one get one free".

Contact your vets, in mine they have the number of the "local cat lady" usually someone who rescues cats/kittens. I got my two from such a lady mind you that was 21 years ago and they are still going strong so if I'd paid £125 each for them that would be approx £6.00 a year :D not bad value.
Oddly enough I approached the RSPCA before I got the kittens and they told me I couldn't adopt a cat because I WORKED. I sometimes think they are there own worse enemies honestly. My vet gave me a reference to take to them as well !
But looking back I think I got the better end of the deal as I got the two best cats in the world :D

i agree with one of the earlier posters- loot wa fantastic when i got my cats!!
They cost me only five pound each, and were the most adorable kittensin the world - a piece of advice though have them insured- i wish i had, diesel my baby boy had to be put down when about a year old, got very poorly, we could work out what was wrong with him, the vets thought it may have been a congentital (don't think i've spelt it right) brain condition, how ever as not insured couldn't afford tests to prove it was right. How ever don't be concerned by this his sister is still with us and thriving happily!!!
lots of luck,

The Cats Protection League usually have loads of cats/kittens in need of homes. If you look up the website you'll find a local contact number. Our local group don't charge a donation is optional and thankfully they test the cats for FIV/Felv before rehoming.

Hello
We have laughed so much since he came home , the dogs are not that bothered , but he keeps playing with the dogs earholes and attacking their tails :D
I dont think that he realizes that they are dogs :D
Or maybe he thinks hes a dog :D , who knows , but hes wonderful , and we have all feel completely and utterly in love with him :)
Hes now asleep on top of the fish tank - but i suppose theres nothing like watching the fish as hes trying to get to sleep :D

I got my last one from the cat rescue .his mother died and left 3 little kittens 2 blue girls and one pure white boy. picked the boy because he came up to us first even thou the blue ones were so pretty. and hes so freindly animals pick you i think so when picking out of a litter i think its nice to pick the one that walks up to you:D

We got our free, it was wandering round the road for weeks it was a scruffy litter underweight thing and my husband had said not more cats ( son can back to live at home and brought his cat)The winter came and she was still sleeping rough but could not get near al lot of people tryed but she would not go near, so I started leaving food and milk outside the front door for her on a night gradually she started comeing into the house but the bordeaux and large newfoundlands scared her off,but she got used to that and sat in the hall way, then graduated to the lounge, she has been here about a year now any is still very shy, but at least she is living in the house in cold weather and coming for her meals each day

When my cat had kittens I gave them away for free to good homes, it never even crossed my mind to charge any money, how strange that people are now having to pay for moggie cats, when there are loads in rescue homes.

Hiya
We paid £25 but that was cos she is a tortie moggie. I saw some grey moggies for £50 in the paper. My moggie had a couple of litters cos I wanted another n also everyone wants a tortie, she had a silver tortie, 2 brown torties and a ginger. We chanrged £30, we didn't want to give them away free as wanted a good home for them and also we had the litter and the food costs. We kept the brown tortie but I so wished we had kept the silver, so unusual and very very pretty. My mum used to breed burmese and did really well with them. She had a gorgeous lilac kitten and could have sold that for a fortune.
Gina
PS We had a cat from rescue but she ran off and people I know who have had rescue cats, they haven't been friendly, so I always get a kitten. But I will be getting a pedigree next, either a tonkinese or burmese.

Get a burmese - theyre gorgeous and very intelligent and loving. We had two, a brown girl and a cream boy. I'd love another couple, but my terriers are not used to cats. :(

Hiya
Yes well my mum used to breed burmese so knows everything there is to know about them, that's a good reason to get one, she also knows who the good breeders are etc etc. She had 2 chocolates, a brown and a cream. She stopped breeding them though as her younger one got an infection of the womb and had to be speyed.
