Hi all,
Monty is now 4 1/2 months and is good....except when walking!!!
If he see's someone he is like a bat out of hell and will run the whole length of the field to get to them! I have tried extending leads but was encouraged to let him off and..
Calling him back and giving treats occasionally on walks - which works when we are alone.
I have tried a high pitched happy vioce VERY loudly - which again, when alone, works!
Waving something above my head
Walking/running in the opposite direction
NOTHING works. If i call him, he seems to run to the other person (unsure if its because his fur is growing over his eyes so he can't see so well - bless!)
My trainer says other people will become boring to him but I now don't want to let him off as he is like a steam train and charges straight into them.
Please can someone help

btw. I don't always go on the same walks. If I use the same place 2 days running, we go a different direction and through tree's etc so he doesnt get use to it.
I have a friend with a Scottie pup the same age who does exactly the same and she follows the men home!. Why not tie a cord to the collar ( not in the trees) plastic washing line works well and if he takes off step on the line and call him then. He wont get a chance to disobey.
You can try hiding from him - that may work, and be very unpredictable on all walks, and even try to get away from him ...

Lots of high value food rewards for good behaviour, and if he DOES become engaged by others, try not to call him until he is a bit bored and is almost looking for you. Try if possible not to get into situations where he bogs off (yes easy i know LOL) and if he is keen on toys, keep a special one as a reward for good recall and play.
Hth a bit

My dog used to do this we overcame it accidently I was having one of my fittness phases and took up running with him, so if he wasted time with other people he soon learnt I would disappear out of sight ( he didn't know I was just panting behind a tree) but he would panick and come looking!! Obviously this can only be done well away from any dangers but try hiding from him it worked for us.
good luck.
Our dog does the same - always has done, and he is now 17 months! And other people are not boring to him yet!! It's only because he's so friendly, that he just has to go and say hello to everybody he sees. Sometimes I wish he wasn't quite so over-friendly, to be honest!! Anyway, as he's quite a big dog, not everyone is that keen to see him come bouncing over, so what I find works quite well is a dog whistle. He always responds to that almost immediately, whereas if I just use voice, he may or may not respond. I'd give it a try if I were you. Make sure you always have the treat ready when he comes back! (or a toy if he likes to play).

I will get a dog whistle as he likes whistling - not him obviously :)
