Topic Dog Boards / Health / Constipation after Surgery: Is it Normal
- By Stacey [gb] Date 19.09.03 11:34 UTC
Hi,

Abby was spayed on Wednesday and did not eat on that day. She was back to normal eating yesterday and this morning. She has not poo'd since Wednesday morning and I am getting myself worked up, as usual, that something is wrong. My husband said she tried to poo yesterday, but sat down each time and did not. However, I am not sure because she has not tried at all when I have her outside. She does sit a lot when out for a walk on the lead (excluding mad dashes at squirrels). I think her stitches are bothering her, but I see no evidence that she is trying to poo.

Just trying to decide what degree of panic I should be in now, since I am already leaping to the conclusion that vet sewed her bowels closed or something.

Yes, I give Liquid Paraffin, but the vet can give you and enema if you don't like the idea of the L.P.

Thanks Jackie! I will call the vet.

It's not unusual for a bitch to be a bit constipated after being spayed Have a word with your vet before giving her anything
