Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone else had ever had the same problem. Our 6 month old pup sometimes wees when we ignore him, even if we're just having our dinner before feeding him let alone if we exclude him for any misbehaviour (relatively rare). His toilet training had been going pretty well generally apart from this particular problem. The back door is generally open and we take him out a lot anyway in the garden plus walks. The problem seems to have got a bit worse in last week or two, don't know if adolescence has anything to do with this. He's fit and healthy.
Has anyone any suggestions of how to remedy this?
Many thanks,
Jude

Are you sure he's fit and healthy? Dogs can suffer from urinary tract infections which often show as a lack of control....

Good question. I'm fairly sure, it's not indiscriminate weeing, it always happens when he's not the centre of attention or we put him away (happens even if shut away for 10 seconds which we might have to do if taking chicken from oven while cooking for example). It almost feels like he does it on purpose though I know (well, I'm fairly sure!) dogs don't do this on purpose.

Hi Jude.i have a similar problem with my 9 month old pup she is getting better but like you it seems somtimes like she is doing it on purpose ,do you have cats or other animals?we have two cats and have had a lot of problems with pup and one cat in particular !i have been told she is scenting where the cats have been , i hope this is going to eventually going to sort itself out because its driving me to distraction,we have now been told after cleaning the mess up to rub a piece of her bedding onto her scent and pass the "scented "piece of cloth over where she has been (i hope you are able to understand this ) apparently she is just trying to mask the cats scent.........anyone else any other ideas ?Regards Sue T. xx

My 16 week old cocker does the same. His favourite is if I nip to the loo, I'm only gone a couple of minutes but he has to have a wee outside the bathroom door. Another favourite is when I get my little girl dressed, if he's not included & not allowed in the room he will either wee or poo outside. Otherwise hes very good now, he uses the cat flap at the minute so dont know what will happen when he gets too big to get through it lol

how about popping the dog outside in the garden and hut they door whilst u are doing something them let him in and if he has wee'd tell him good boy and treat him. You may have to stand at the door an watch him to see if he will wee.
Just a thought

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies. For the last couple of days, I'v reverted to taking him out every half hour to make sure he goes as regularly as possible. Can't just shut him outside as I'd have no idea if he'd gone or not as we have grass outside basically. We haven't had any wee indoors now during that time so I think we'll continue with this for a while. I was mainly worried that his toilet training was disintegrating and that he was forgetting that he shouldn't go inside, nightmare! Managed to shut him away for a couple of mins while cooking last night with no mishaps.
Hope all your dogs improve too!
Jude
