my 5 month old akita is teething, but when i checked her mouth last night,on the bottom near the front there is a tooth growing sidewards beside another one.it doesn't look the same as the other side of her mouth.could it be that her baby tooth hasn't came out and the adult one is coming up at an angle ?

Could be that the one that is at an angle is the one on it's way out, have you tried a wiggel.

i hope you are right jackie,i will try that when i get home from work tonight.if not is there anything that can be done to straighten her teeth?

How old is she now? We thought that our Kira was teething at 9 weeks. One came out but none others have. She is 13 weeks old now.

Billybob, it neither of the teeth are loose I would take the dog to the vet, they will probably remove one so the other can grow straight.

Hi Hoppy, the one that was lost at 9 weeks may have been knocked out or broken off, the milk teeth are very brittle. The rest will follow in their own good time, it does differ from dog to dog but your dog has plenty of time yet.

If the tooth was broken it is not a problem the rest will come out when the pup changes teeth, if it is worrying the pup it may have become infected so in that case take to the vet.

Hi Jackie, we did take her to the vet, she said that most of the tooth had come out (we kept it to show her) and she said that it all looked fine. What age do they start to fall out?

i went home from work last night and the one that had been sitting at an angle had fell out and the other one is starting to come through, can't find the one that fell out,she must have eaten it.by the way hoppers she is nearly 5 months old.

How much does she weigh now?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 19.09.03 09:22 UTC
As far as I can remember it is between 4 and 6 months - the front ones first.

i'm not sure hoppers i am taking her to the vet's tomorrow to get microchipped so i will weigh her then, she will not be as heavy as the american dog's as she is an akita inu.have you got an akita yourself?

Yes a Great Japanese Akita called Kira. She came from Melodor Akita's with a stunning background. I should show her realy, it would be a waste not to. She is 13 weeks and just over 16kg at the moment and changing daily! I'll put some pictures of her on here soon :-)

hi hoppers, what is your dog like whenever she meets other dogs/ my suki jumps straight up on their faces with both paws as if she is trying to blind them!

One of our friends has a 2.5 year old Akita bitch and she has kind of taken Kira under her wing. When they meet Kira goes mad with excitement. Ling lets her have a play (much like a lion cub in the wild with it's mother or family) then now and then gently brings her back to the real world with more or less the whole of Kira in her mouth. Because she knows her so well she doesn't realy jump up just tries to nip the loose skin around the neck. We have other friends with non pedigree dogs and bitches and Kira is as much in love with them as she is with Ling but because they are smaller dogs they are a little unawheres of her so are not quite so forgiving so Kira will tend to use her paws more to keep a little distance between themselves. She still thinks it's a game and has so far (fingers crossed) never got upset, deciding to kiss and lick them as much as possible :-) We had our first puppy training class last week and I must say she was amazing, better than most of the pupps that had been training there for a long period of time. However there was one boundy chocolate lab who was always jumping up and getting in Kira's face so Kira was doing as you said your does by kind of standing up and wrapping her arms around the lab, they both where having fun doing this but it was a clear dominance manouver so I interveened with the jumping. Overall I could not have wished for her to have been half as good as she is!
