hello can someone please advise on k.c reg and five generation certificate,
we collected our little boy last week and have been given a five generation certificate also the usual change of ownership forms from the kennel club.
he is k.c reg but have been told 5 generation certificate is not the same thing as k.c reg, sorry a bit confused on this
he is k.c reg isnt he? his reg number is all noted down ect on kc forms
just wondering why the pedigree certificate is different,

cheers
alan

The change of ownership forms should be attached to the dogs registration, it will show his name, this sires name and his dams name and there will also be a number. The pedigree is a chart of your dogs ancestors, it should, of course, apply to the same dog as the registration documents.

Hi Alan,
A 5-generation pedigree is simply a list of all your dog's ancestors, going back 5 generations. The KC Registration Certificate is a different document, and will show your pup's Registered (KC) name and number, and those of his sire and dam (father and mother). The names of the sire and dam will be the first 2 names on the left-hand side of the pedigree.

Technically speaking, all dogs, even mongrels, have a pedigree, as it is purely a list of ancestors, and all dogs have ancestors! The Registration document is what is vital.

Hi Alan, it sounds to me from reading your post, that you have got all the correct documents. The document that you describe as the change of ownership, is in fact the KC registration form. It is a pale blue colour, A4 size, and on the front it shows the dogs registered name, breed, date of birth and details of sire and dam etc. Th registration number is on the right hand side. Turn the sheet over, and you have the application to register a change of ownership.

The 5 generation pedigree certificate is a separate document that might either have been issued by the Kennel Club on official paper, or the breeder might have chosen to do their own, but as you have gathered these are two separate things, and you should have both.
