Does anyone use a Steam cleaner to clean tiles, or rather the gaps between them? I have recently had my Kithen Floor tiled and whilst it is a godsend re:muddy paws etc the gaps between look 'murky', have used bleach etc which works but saw an advert on TV last evening for a small steam cleaner for precisely this, just wonder if anyone here has one?

I have a big one, not a hand held one. It's great because I can clean the house (every few months or so) without using loads of chemicals - but it was expensive and the top of the range - I don't know much about the hand held ones - which I don't think are pressurised, so may not be so effective?

Hiya Sweep,
Don't get a little one, they're not too great. We got our big one second hand and they're amazing!! They not only do tiles but carpets, windows, curtains and also are great for disinfecting dog beds!!
Sarah.
P.S. They're great for doing the loo too!!

My husband bought a hand held one and it is wonderful, he was getting a bit miffed about the tiles in the bathroom and the grouting, so he got his just for that, it tokk us one day (of thorough steaming as the whole bathroom is tiled) and it looks brand new, if you only want to do small jobs with it i.e cooker, kitchen floor, grouting etc, the hand held ones are great! ..... and v v v easy to store.

Sweep,
In a word....CRAP !!!!
I got the yellow one, Electrolux £59. And it's going back to Argos tomorrow.
It's advertised as being great to clean your windows, but in the instructions it says NOT to use on cold glass

Anyway, had a go at doing my windows today, and it does clean, but the water drips down all over, so makes loads of skarmy, wet marks.
Also says it gives 15 mins of continuous steam.....I only got 4 mins !!!
Supposed to be good on carpets :) ....didn't make any difference on mine :(
Couldn't be bothered with it after that :(
So, am just going to get someoen in to clean my carpets now....s*d it !!

Sorry to hear that Steph - thanks for info.
Cheers

Hi all,
I have read the posts with interest, but I am still a little confused (it doesn't take a lot to confuse ME!!....:)) about which steam cleaner to buy. Could anyone recommend a specific make? I want to use it mainly for a tiled kitchen floor.
Thanks for your help,
Glen.

Hi Glen,
If you want the best, get a Polti. They're quite expensive, but well worth it. It'll do a lot more than your floor!! It comes with all the attachments, and you can even get an iron, which works really well.
Sarah.
Hi Sarah,
I have seen the Polti in the Argos catalogue. Maybe I'll 'invest' in one!....................early Christmas Present?.....OR an essential piece of household equipment do you think???? :)
Thanks,
Glen

Essential I'd say!!
Here's a list of what I use it for Glen: Cleaning carpets, bathroom, kitchen, dog beds, windows, ironing, car, dog crates, curtains. I could go on!! All this with no detergent or chemicals!!
P.S It also defrosts the freezer very quickly!!
Sarah.
Happy Xmas!! :D
Defrosting the FREEZER????......It has got to be worth getting one for that job alone!!!!! I'll keep you posted!!
Glen
