Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Should I stop this game?

Just been reading the thread on BC chasing children, and would like to ask for even more help! When we are out walking, Sparky is pretty good at "leaving" moving things - bikes, people etc when on his lead. I often take him to sit quietly at a busy road junction, or at stopping points in the park, and practise avoiding passers by etc. In the park, we only let him offlead when we are pretty sure there are no small kids about at the moment, as he is still a bit jumpy, and always call him back and put him on lead if what looks like a potential risk appears. However - my own children love playing hide and seek with him amongst the trees on the large field where we walk him. They race about amongst the trees with Sparky following, and I can always rely on them to get him to come back when I need it. (I also run in the opposite direction on the odd occasion that he dosn't come when called) Is this teaching him to chase, though? Are we being unfair to say that chasing is fine one minute, but not allowed at other times?

On the plus side, thanks so much for the advice on pulling especially from Lorelei, as he now walks to heel like a dream (well, most of the time;))

Perhaps you could modify the rules so that no actual chasing is involved - just the seeking bit - if you are at all worried?

HI Tracy, congratulations on Sparky walking nicely on the lead:). We play hide and seek with Morse and kids and we get the kids to hide while he sits with me until they're hidden and then release him to find them. They all give him a treat and hold his collar just a sec while he eats it then on to the next one. Nobody runs. It s great fun especially passers by's reactions to " Release the hound!" this family is sick.
