My friend's dog has recurrent diarroeah - She is going to check the dog's diet. However, this dog is also given pig's ear chews almost daily for a treat. I am sure I have heard that these can sometimes cause upset tummies (I think even more serious problems)!
I would appreciate your experience or comments about these chews, so that I can pass them onto my friend.
Many thanks.

The dog needs to be checked over by a vet it could have one stuck that is why it has upset tum is there any blood? dont give these things.

I gather some dogs find pigs ears (and pork in general) very rich and difficult to digest. Also pigs ears and similar products in petshops are so full of preservatives etc (if they weren't they would have to be kept in a chiller cabinet) that I don't feel they can be very healthy.

Mine have pigs ears, but only as a treat once every couple of weeks - wouldn't give them any more frequently than that !

Pigs ears are normally deep fried, not an excellent choice of feeding to a dog. They can be extremely indigestible to some dogs, especially with all that fat.

They can be a convenient treat..... i myself was giving them to our pup to keep him busy for 1/2 hour or so whilst we went food shopping on holiday, he would become totally engrossed in it and because they are so tough and chewy it takes them ages to actually consume it, after 2 of them (over 4 days) he had a real problem with soft poos :(, i put it down to these pigs ears and he hasn't had one since, and no further probs with his toilets. Now i just stuff his kong to the max with cheese, corned beef / chicken and rice.
