I have just noticed my 10 month old tiny toy poodle has two rows of teeth, the vet said he can take one set out but she only stands 6" tall and is so tiny i am afraid the op might kill her. Any advice

I wouldnt worry too much about having an op. There is always a risk, but that is with any op, on any animal.
I have done ops on rats (if they can survive it, most other things would have a higher survival rate) and they have been fine, as long as the vet is competant, but more importantly, the nurse is competant at monitoring ops, I shouldnt worry.
Depending on the teeth etc, they may not need to go under anaesthetic for too long, and the level of, I would imagine Isoflo, would not necessarily be as high as if it was an internal op.

Hi,

It's not unusual for dogs to retain their milk teeth after their adult teeth appear. Usually a vet will remove the teeth at the same time dog is neutured, if that is the plan. If not, the retained teeth are removed. If they are milk (baby) teeth it should be a very simple procedure.

I didn't know it was a common thing, is an op the only answer or would hard chew bars make the baby teeth fall out?

You can try hard bones etc to loosen the puppy teeth. However, this is a common problem with really tiny dogs and toy dogs as well. It also seems to be a genetic thing retention of puppy teeth so best not to breed from dog and especially if only 6 inches at the shoulder.

thanks Jesse, She definately won't be having any pups and I doubt i'd even find a dog small enough to breed with her.
