I have a female rottie that is 3 and 1/2 yrs old, it is very dog aggressive at times. my wife brought home a male lab that is 10 weeks old how do i get the two to beable to get along or am I going to have to get rid of the pup>

Aggression is a very complicated topic as there can be so many reasons behind it - can you give us more details of the circumstances under which your Rottie is agressive?

The Rottie is aggressive when around any dog since we got her. At the time we got her she was about one year old. She also likes to smell other dogs but if one smells her she gets nasty. Also if any dogs get close to her she gets nasty.

when she is in contact with the pup is she nasty with him?

Can I ask why you bought a pup knowing that your eldest dog was aleady dog aggressive ?

There could be alsorts of reasons behind her behaviour - she could be feeling scared of other dogs, she could feel she has to defend her owners against other dogs - without seeing her it's difficult to give a recipe for success - but it does sound very irresponsible to bring a pup into a home with a dog whose known to be dog agressive :(

I would tend to agree with everyone that they should not have got the pup. When I got my 3 month old APBT (bitch) I had a very dog aggressive 6 year old staff x GSD (bitch). Drug dealers were driving round a housing scheme holding the pup out the window of a car and asking anyone if they wanted a pit bull pup before they drowned it in the river. I gave them £50 for her. I didnt think I was being irresponsible. I was very lucky though for some unknown reason my aggressive bitch mothered her and they lived together for 8 years happily with never a fight. My APBT was the most dog people freindly thing I ever knew and my old cross bitch was still very dog aggressive.
I beleive this is the exception not the norm though. I dont have any advice to offer really but it could work. It did for me.
Is the rotty okay with the pup at the moment?.
