Just a little self brag.

Today at the park, Sal off lead and wandering about when a loose xCollie ran toward us then past us, Sal being Sal decided this was a game and ran after the collie. Sadly the collie was running toward the road (not fenced this park) I panicked and ran after Sal seeing the collieX's owner doing the same thing then I stopped running and shouted "Down" and you know what it worked she dropped like she had been shot.

My Sal 10 months old and Stafford crazy through and through. She just dropped( I'm still in shock.)

I walked toward her so not to start her running again and clipped the lead on. Praised her and walked back toward where we were picked up her beloved kong let her off lead threw the kong a couple of times
then put her back on the lead and came home.

I am still shaking as to what could have happened as it's a busy road. And a couple of weeks ago
she ran off refusing to stop. Have been working on DOWN for a while and it WORKED :D

Well done the pair of you !! :)
I think its always important as well not to chase after the dog in instances like this . Sometimes even running off in the opposite direction while calling so the dog turns and follows you can be a good idea too ( if he dog isnt as well trained as Sal of course ) :D
Extra treats for Sal I hope Karen ?

No Lel,

No extra treats she did as she was told when she was told (that sounded good didn't it)

Seriously though with her being a Staff the way people behave toward them these days I thought DOWN would be a good lesson and it seems to be. Now if only I could get her to master "not stealing your owners Solero ice cream/ice lolly, when we are sitting in the garden after coming back from the park" we would be talking a seriously well trained dog ;)
But I don't think that day will ever come:D

Well done Karen!!
This just proves that it's worth while training your dog. The "stop your dog" is part of the test for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award. Have you and Sal thought about doing it? Both my G.S.Ds have their gold, my B.S.D has her bronze and Buster my Staff got his bronze last month at 10 months old!! (There, that's my little brag over and done with):D

god thats good to read lol,

ive just taken on an irish staffy and she is the most spoilt, untrained thing i have ever met and will either do things her way or just lay on her back with her legs in the air and not move till u give up lol.

Shes laid on the sofa next to me as i type - i tried for the first couple of days to keep her down but to no avail - her persistance out lasted mine!

is good to see that despite my first experiences staffies are trainable and will get there eventually.

Andy, welcome to the world of "Bull breed owning" they are a bandapart no other breed compares (no offence other breeds :D )

How old is your bitch. And just a hint/tip if you don't want her on the sofa make sure you stick to not letting he on the sofa. Stafford and I assume this is ISBT too are stubborn, but I have had no problems with Sal at all to speak of (fingers crossed) got her at 7 weeks 3 days. And she's my 4th Stafford, so I suppose I've sussed them already and hope I'm not making to many errors with this one.

What's your bitch called and what colour?
