I am still a little shook up...... out walking with little monster yesterday, he is very good and sits at the drop kerbs and waits for me to say walk when it's time etc, etc..... i THINK he must have spotted a squirrel (hundreds around where we live) and he just went, the force or it catapulted me into the road as well, where i came head to head (literally) with a silver Audi (weird what you remember!!) whilst he was away safe in a field the other side of the road!
I know people say they love their pets so much they'd die for them but REALLY! the driver was so good and made sure i was okay and even went and got the dog for me, so never think that "I'm just walking the dog, what harm can come to me!!"........

Buster did exactly the same to me except I was on a hill in the park, he pulled me over so hard I fell straight onto my bottom, and I could swear I had whiplash for a couple of days where he jerked - bloody squirrels! Nicki
What a scare! Glad the driver was such a gent/lady about it. :) What breed is Little Monster?

Squirrels have a lot to answer for definately !!!
Stu was about to put Gus on his lead while in the woods on Friday He had just slipped the lead onto the collar when Gus saw a squirrel and shot off pulling Stu over in the process and ended up sliding down a hill - The result ?? One fractured ankle
The mean thing is that eveyon laughs when he tells them how he got it ;) Poor thing had to be helped home by an elderly gentleman out walking .
Lel ( who also laughed and was unsympathetic ) :D
if he can pull you over, i would recommend changing to a head collar for the safety of both you and your dog.

Thanks for replies in answer to Lorelei, he's a Cocker!!! Not exactely a dumpertruck!!! He totally caught me off guard, i had slacked off the lead and was waiting for a car to pass from the opposite direction off a T-junction (it was a fair way away), but that'll teach me hey, i was thinking about purchasing a halti or harness but have NO experience with these and wouldn't know which one to get really. He's quite good on the lead a bit of "Puppy Power!" pulling to begin with and then settles, but if he hears or sees something rustling in the bushes / trees, he's like a frog in a blender.... all over the place!!! ;)

Hi Sooz,
If your little monster is a puller like my dogs try the dogmatic it is so much better than the halti and safer because they cant get out of it, I had tried the halti and the gentle leader with no success at all then from this site I heard about the dogmatic so decided to splash out and purchase one (£25) and I must say I am so impressed with them, even my older dog who was a complete nightmare walks nicely its wonderful, I cant say why they work better than the others as in one way the design is the same but they do.

Hi Sandie
I'd really appreciating understanding more about the dogmatic. My Mini Schnauzer (20lbs) I know not huge, but is an incessant puller. Just to provide you with a brief history, she is now 9 months old and a wonderful dog. But, on walks she's a terror - we started on an ordinary collar and tried some of the stopping, turning and walking backwards techniques but I struggled with these partly becuase she didnt seem to take any notice and because I often have the distraction of my daughter, other kids, bikes etc. etc. Anyway, it got to the stage that she would pull so hard she collapsed so we moved on to a gentle leader which was a great relief for some weeks. But now she has almost learned to pull on this, she holds her head in a determined way and off she goes snorting, wheezing etc. etc. It is not particularly enjoyable until she's had a run off the lead, burned off some energy and she's on the way home. If you think the dogmatic could help us I'd love to learn more.
Thanks
Karen.

Hi Karen,
Your dog sounds just like my springer was with the pulling and snorting it was so embarrasing walking her that I would take her off lead just to make it easier. The dogmatic has stopped all that and now she's a pleasure to walk and we dont get the horrible noises.
You can get details from their website. 'www.dogmatic.org.uk I hope you find it helpful.
Sandie.

oh my goodness! good job your okay! my boxer is so strong, and when he goes he goes! surprised i havent had an accident yet! we use a halti which has made an improvement, ( i really like them! the size gides are on the packet and i'm sure you'd see a difference) the leader at the puppy classes we went to recommended it, as bruno used to pull into the show ring) although harnesses are supposed to be good too! good luck!

Wow, luckily you are okey! I have two pulling doggies, but I can handle them. I don't mind them pulling because untill now they always stop pulling when I say so. I only get very annoyed when they decide to pull me in different directions! Sometimes when something scary happens, my bitch Nibble pulls me home and my dog Pepper pulls me to where the 'action' is...
