Hi everyone,

My 9 month Giant Schnauzer has been diagnosed as having deemodectic mange. He has been prescribed Aludex to be bathed in and seems to have got more "itchy" & irritated since i have been using it. Can anyone tell if they have experienced a dog with this type of problem & if Aludex was a successful treatment? Also, does anyone know of anything I can give him to help with the irritation etc. I have heard that sulphur is good but is this safe with Aludex?

Thanks.

Richard.

Demodectic mange does not in it's self cause itching but secondary infection can, the vet can give you something to help with this and it may be the dog needs antibiotics too.

You have my sympathy, it will clear up but is horrible to deal with the treatment, at least it is not contagious. If you are not happy with your dog with any treatment it is better to return to the vet for advice, other treatments are available but the one you have is what is tried first.

Thanks for the reply. He is on antibiotics and actually doesnt have that much of the problem, just under his chin and on the side of his face and both front feet.

Nice to know it will clear up. Feel so sorry for him at the moment.

Glad to hear it is not too bad, you must do the treatment as instructed and keep it up. Demodectic mange can return and is thought to be associated with a reduced immune system. I have had one dog who had during his live several episodes of the problem because he had a compromised immune system, nothing to do the mange.

Hiya
My advice would be just bear with the bathing in the treatment. I know you will probably have to do this for a number of weeks for it to work.
Dont worry, its not catching.
I used aloe vera gel on my dog when she had it.

Take care

Can't tell you what it is, but is not right he needs to see a vet.
