Hi everyone,
I'm not posting for advice but just to get it off my chest cause Buddy has just nearly given me a heart attack. I was grooming him as usual on the counter top as bending over kills my back. He always sits there untill i say 'lets have you down', then i lift him down to the floor. Today he decided to make a jump for it. Turning the tap on probably freaked him, maybe thinking he was going to get a wash. He landed on his front legs to start with then his chin hit the floor with such a thud followed by the rest of him. My heart nearly stopped as it seems such a height for a small dog. He was not hurt thank heavens but he certainly looked surprised. Strange thing was, once he realised he was not going to get wet he was pawing me to get back up and finish the brushing.
Go figure. Looks like i'll have to find an alternative grooming spot.
Has anyone eles little darlings stunts nearly caused them coronarys. I'd be interested in hearing.
Budmag.

My springer jumped over a wall at the beach recently, it was 2 feet on our side and 12 feet at least on the other, she left quite a hole in the sand and left me with palpatations for about 10 minutes , the worst bit was she came tearing back and was about to try it again.

My mad springer did exactly the same thing. He sat on the beach looking at me and crying. I was up the top with my young daughter in a pushchair and I couldnt get to him. It was cold, raining and windy and not a sole was around to help.

Once poor Oscar realised I wasn't coming to get him he limped up the beach until he could climb back up.

I haven't been back since!

Tell me about it! One of mine leapt off a stable roof (don't ask!) onto a cobbled yard without injury, and another one came down a 75' cliff in 3 bounds. Dals obviously think they can defy gravity.

Whilst in devon on holiday a few years back, Dylan was running in the trees to the side of the path, unbeknown to him (and we weren't concentrating!) the trees led up a sort of embankment whilst our path carried on 8 foot below. I called him, thinking he would come up behind us or infront, when this 5.5 stone black thing flew above our heads, landed on its head, rolled on to its back , yes, Dylan! He got up, shook himself and carried on running. Result? small graze on his head, and the wall being cristened Dylans leap!!!

We were all convinced he was going to die when we saw him flying through the air, but absolutely no real injury at all!!

Buddy-babe! Glad he's ok. Morse's worst stunt involved chasing a bird along the road in front of a bus ( this was in the bad old days before we knew about recall and got caught out regularly). You could see smoke coming off the wheels as the driver slowed and slowed and slowed........

Sister had a St Bernard walk through an 1st floor window, did not do it too much good or the paving she landed on. She recovered and had to be restrained from repeating the experiment.

Buddy's fine. Reading your postings makes his death leap from the counter top look like a piece of cake.

The title of the post could result in permanent nick naming - I already think of the wee man as Buddynowings:D

They don't all end happily - does anyone remember the Dobe who jumped over the wall (Manchester Champ Show I think). Jambo only survived his fall for a short time - just long enough for the vet to get there I think but he could not help.

Luck just has to be on the dogs side, I am sure for each happy ending there is one with a not so happy ending :(

well mine is the walk up Hoy which is one of the Island around Orkney, well we walked up the foot path and every 20ft was a little bride you had top cross cause there was water under it, well Ice (5 yr GSD at the time) thought it would be great to keep going under the little bridge to drink, unbeknown to her one of the little bridges had an 8ft drop which was over grown in heather and stuff, so my partner lent down i grabbed his legs whilst he grabbed her collar to yank her up, well after that she still wanted to go down more so we put her on her lead for safety :-D cause once you reach the top of Hoy the drop is gulp horribly high

our first springer whilst out on a walk disappeared our lab kept walking between me and the girls and back to polly until we found her she had jumped down a 40' cliff and couldnt get back up, i had my 3 foster sisters with me and had forgotten my phone, the eldest one (8 at the time) ran home to get help it took her 10 mins to calm down before she could say what had happened, we think tess nearly followed her down the cliff as now she stays well away from high drops yet she does agility :S

Also not exactly a drop but while out on a bomb job jake when let out of the van to go a toilet before the search smelt water (moat around a castle) went completely deaf to his recall and jumped in with buddy the other dog in tow :D
