Continued from here.

Thanks for the advice Lucy. Personally I don't think my friend should have a dog at all, but she's determined that she's going to get a Rottie. I've tried really hard to convince her that she's foolish but she won't listen to me at all.

A few weeks ago I borrowed a working Rottie, Max, from a friend as we were having trouble with the neighbourhood kids. Max is coming to stay tonight for a few days and I'll be taking him around to see my friend and her daughter. He is HUGE and extremely strong so 'fingers crossed', seeing him will put her off the breed. When Max last came to stay he took it upon himself to protect the our youngest child, 15mths, and he got quite agitated with my hubby when he went to feed her in the middle of the night. Luckily Max is so well trained that he just lay there and grumbled but I dread to think what would have happened if his owners hadn't put in the hours of work with him that they did.

I'll let you all know how Max gets on and if he manages to put my friend off Rotties, in her hands a Rottie would be a walking timebomb that would end up having to be put down.

Where does it say on the Kennel Club site weights for Rotties?

I have just followed the link that Leigh put up and went to Breed Standards from there to Discover Dogs and so on until I got to the Rottie breed standard and I'm sorry but there is no mention of weight in there at all!

It does give height for both dogs and bitches but no weights Dogs between 63-69 cms (25-27 ins) and bitches between 58-64 cms (23-25 ins).

The official KC standard doesn't give a weight, only stating that it should be in proportion. Even taking muscle mass into consideration, I have a hard time believing that any dog standing within the guidelines of 25-27 inches would be proportional at 184 pounds. As a comparison, Newfoundlands standing at 28 inches have an average weight of 141-152 pounds. That's an additional inch taller and 32 pounds less in weight. My guess is that the Rottweiler probably was not overweight, but oversize in both height and weight.

Mark me off the judges schedules if I become licensed in Rottweilers, because it isn't one that I would put up.

if you click on the link on the previous page that leigh put up ang on the first page that comes up with the picture of the rotts head on it theres a bit titled HOW BIG. if you read this it tells you the expected size of firstly the male and then states his weight should be . i think it was between 40-50, ,then the expected size of the female with her weight,
