I can only speak for myself - No I wouldn't...to me it would show that you want to buy from a good breeder and that you expect to get help and assistance in the future. Any good breeder accepts responsibility for the dogs they have bred for the life of the dog. I put in my contracts at sale that if for any reason the dog has to be re-homed I have to approve of the new owner, or take back the dog myself. The problem you may have is if you find a new breeder with a first litter - don't discount them because they have no "references" - remember we all have to start sometime and go with gut feeling after asking lots of questions. Good luck in your search for the right breeder with the right puppy.

Me too, I would be very happy to put someone in touch with previous puppy buyers.
Also in the case of a first time litter, a good breeder will not be working in isolation, and they may not be able to pass you to a puppy buyer for a reference, but can pass you on to the breeder of their bitch.
I had this happen with a buyer from a first litter bred from a bitch I had bred, and they also took references from the ownere of the stud dog owner as to what they knew of this first time breeder.

I would not mind eather but I would have to talk to the other party first to see if it was ok to give out there number.
Wot a good idea maybe theres something there that could work out when looking for a new puppy and maybe then RSPCA can put it on there check list.
Anyone who had a problem with it might have something to hide!!!!

Dont think any responsible breeder would object, but definetly needs the permission of the other puppy buyers before giving out their phone numbers at random! Recently, I had an enquiry from a lady who was about 200 miles away. I suggested she rang my Vet to get a reference - she did, and like what she heard, I delivered the puppy, so I could check out things at her end too!

Oh yes - I always check first! In fact a couple of my owners have been kind enough to let someone visit them to see their dog, and avoid a prospective owner having a long journey to decide its not the breed for them. But I always speak over the 'phone to give breed info, and insist that they meet "mum" before I agree to let them have a puppy. I am careful who has my dogs, and I want prospective owners to be just as careful who they buy from.

Hi I don't breed but have a 9 month old Stafford pup and have recently spoken to prospective owners who were considering a pup from my breeder. One even visted us and saw Sal. Pleased to say he liked what he saw and is now on the waiting list.

I would think that any responsible breeder with nothing to hide would be more than happy to provide you with this information we introduced a page on our website for new owners comments for people to see and anyone who has posted on there has also offered to give us a private refference should it be required.
buying a puppy is a big commitment not to be taken lightly you need to be 100% happy with the breeder as well as the pedigree and puppy!
good luck :)

HIya,
This happened to me yesterday....a prospective puppy owner phoned my bitches breeder who's also the owner of my pups sire....the stud dog.
I was very happy with this...it made me think straight away that these people were concerned enough about what they were buying to do some research into the background of the pups, and Mum and Dad.
I think it's a great thing to do, and any reputable breeder wouldn't have a problem with it.
Take care
Lisa

I would be delighted for a potential puppy owner to do this as it would show much reserach they were doing.Just the type of owner I would be happy with.

Before I brought my rotti I had a friend find out everything she could about my chosen breeder, temperment of dogs, any problems and what people in the breed thought of them. She did this and I brought a dog from them, they knew what I was doing and they were fine about it.
Lottie is now 2 yrs old and apart from being very naughty and unruly :D she is perfect.
If I required another rotti I would do the same again
