Topic Dog Boards / General / Breeder never send me my puppy pedigree

Hi

I've got a problem with the breeder who sold me my puppy.

Six months ago, I bought a pedigree puppy. The breeder then told me he will send me the pedigree document by mail. After calling him twice, the document is still not arrived.

I feel really upset as I begin to think the breeder is a swindler although until now I was always kind when asking for the document.

What can I do in order to have my pedigree document? Who can help me?
What can I do if I can't have the pedigree document to have a part of my money back?

Thank you for your help

To be fair to the breeder maybe there are reasons why it has taken so long?
We bought our pup in November last year and the document came through in June this year so over 6 months also, so much so I had forgotten about it by the time it arrived! I just assumed that with her dogs and all the recovery having had the pups she may of been busy !

Are we talking about the Kennel Club Registration certificate (equivalent to a human official birth certificate, or a Cars log book) or the Pedigree (list of ancestors). If it is the latter, you can get a 3 or five generation pedigree from the kennel club for your registered dog. Just tick the relevant box on the form when you transfer the dog into your name.

If you have no Registration and or pedigree documents then the breeder may b e a bit slapdash, or as you suspect you are being cheated, and the puppies were never registered.

Do you have the advert for the litter, and did it say Kenenl Club Registered in it. You may be able to take the matter to Trading Standards.

Well most of my lot go this weekend to the new homes and I have all there paper work KC reg and pedigree plus a 6 page note sheet on the breed and how to look after there new puppy, plus a few notelets on dogs I picked up at the vets.
There is no reason why you should not have them when you pick up the puppy.
It dont take 8 weeks to get Reg from the KC now mine was back in a week .
If you have your KC reg you can get a %gen pedigee from the KC has long has you have the puppys full KC name.

Have to disagree with you there are a number of reasons why registration documents are not always available when collecting a puppy!

Personally I tend not to register my pups until I have decided which is staying here as I do not want to waste a show name on a pet puppy.

If the KC turn down your chosen names you have to then think again of a new name

Or simply if you have made an error on the registration form which will then be returned to you for you to correct.

Although I do think that 6 months is an awfully long time and would be chasing this breeder very hard now.

I didn't get my KC registration documents for my last dog (whippet) until 4-6 months after I bought him. The breeder had applied for the registration documents but the KC name requested was turned down because it was similar to one they had already. It took quite a while to go through the process again and get it all sorted. Why don't you call the breeder and ask what the reason is for the delay? Then you'll know if they're being honest or not. It's unusual not to ahve them when you pick up your pup, as far as I am aware, but there can be genuine reasons for a delay.
