We own a very tiny shih tzu who is approximately 10 month old and weighs
6lb, we would love to breed off her . We have a dog who is small but we
are not sure if he is too big for her to mate with. I donot want to damage
the bitch or risk health, could you give me any advice please on the above
matter.

I can't give any specific advice on the weight issue, but I can tell you that 10 months is too young to be having a litter. She is only a baby herself and is still developing. Best to allow her 2 seasons and mate her on her 3rd, if you do decide to mate her at all. Some other breeds need longer still than this - elkhound bitches should not whelp their first litter until they are at least 2 years of age.

I agree with you, this is far too young.

6lbs is a bit small as well I would have thought. Certainly I'm sure it would be considered too small in the UK, although in America I understand they do breed a miniature Shih Tzu. The minimum weight in the breed standard is 10lb
