I am now pondering the question on who to have speyed/castrated and when????
I ahve a 9 1/2 year old male, a 15 month old female, and we are keeping a bitch and dog from our litter. We do not want any more pups, so need to act. But who do we get done???? I was thinking get mum and both pups done so leaving the oldest as top dog. But what about timing ? Mum can be done about 4 weeks after the rest of the pups have gone so im told by my vet, so that is ok no more seasons for her. But what age can the pups be done?????Or do i just get both boys done?? Or both girls??? I am in a dilema any suggestions?????

Sorry so many ???marks

Or can you advise the best ages to get girls/boys done?

Thanks

Brinny, do a search for the best ages to spay or castrate. They could have a 'party booking' at the vet for a first birthday present!

I thought of that but as you know my litter was unplanned and where we live it is really difficult to keep them all apart, so i would like to not be in the same sityation ever again where an accident could occur!!!!

But surely you'll all have learned now what to look out for? How about getting the older dog done now, the mum in a few weeks time when her hormones have settled down again after her litter, then there's only the two pups to worry about.

Yes that was my thinking, but i had thought that it was best to leave one dog undone so as to establish "top dog"?? And i thought that would it would be fairer on the older one to leave him be as at the mo he is top dog. And yes i have learnt my lesson which is why i want to get this right and my timing correct.

Then have mum spayed in a few weeks, and when bitch pup comes into season, put her in kennels for the duration then spay her three months afterwards. Dog pup can be done at about the same time (if necessary).

Thansk JG. My head has been swimming with this as originally we were only keeping one female pup so the idealwould have been to get dad done. But i finally persuaded the other half that he really wanted to keep Tiny Tim as we call him. So it made it mor complicated cause i like the idea of getting mum done for future health reasons!!!!
