As I have said before I want another dog as a companion for our miniature schnauzer Hamish who is nearly 6 years of age.I have thought of another mini, a Westie(which I love) a Bichon, Lakeland and a Wire Fox terrier......love all these breeds. Now the big question of which I hope you can advise me........BOY or GIRL.
Do you think Hamish would be o.k.with either ? I personally thought being a boy and being six years old he would be better with a girl but hubby disagrees.
Please help............

Hi Sue,
Generally i would say a female would be better, but then there are plenty of male dogs that live in harmony. I think 2 males can be more of a problem when a female is then introduced but not sure.
We are also looking for another dog and have a castrated bulldog who is epileptic, hence the castration. I have been looking for a rescue dog and most places will only home a female with him even though hes very laid back.
What ever you get i suppose there will be a period of sorting out who is the boss at some stage.
Good luck with your new dog,
Sam

we have 2 boy's,
a mini schnauzer and a kerry blue.the mini has never shown dominance at all so we decided that a male is what we would prefer, the kerry is quite dominant but they do get along together, even though zak is quiet we all know he is really the boss..well aren't all mini's?:D
