How much do obedience lessons cost for dogs?, we will be taking our puppy home in 7 weeks and just wondered if anyone could advice me, i am assuming it is necessary in helping to train a puppy!

Hiya
We went to our first puppy class last night. It cost £6 for a family membership & £2 per session on top of that. Fraid we dont get the free refreshments though :-( It was great fun, & the dogs obviously love it :-)

Think I must live in an expensive area! Surrey. We started classes last week (KC Good Citizen Scheme) and have paid £35 in advance for 6 weeks. However, we were quoted £69 by one woman for only 4 weeks.
I would say though, that it might be pricey but Molly loved it. My main priority was not so much the training as we do that at home, but the socialisation.

Where in Surrey are you? I found the same thing when looking for a trainer, and eventually found one which worked out about £30 for 6 weeks....however i found the trainer very 'weak' and contradictory in her advise, since then i have met 2 other people who had the same experience with the same trainer, i can't seem to find another trainer who can take me on as they are all fully booked!
I am in Woking. Any suggestions?

With dog training, as with so many things in life; you often get what you pay for! It is sad but true that anyone can take a class at a dog club, KC registered or not. Often it is by Mrs Bloggs up the road who has "been in obedience for years" - yeah, right and never won out of beginners. Or by Major Pleb, the one who puts a check chain on anything and everything and expects the whole class to square bash as one! Would you take your children to be taught by unqualified teachers?
The best place to look for kind trainers is the APDT website;http://www.apdt.co.uk/ alternatively go along to a class first and see if you agree with their methods.
