Yippee our puppy has finally arrived. We have been on holiday and missed the phone calls, i can't believe we can go and visit but we still have to wait about another 7 weeks before the pup is allowed home. We still have one problem though we have not decided which sex to get. I would like a bitch as i have grown up with female dogs but my partner would like a dog! I don't know how we are going to decide but we will have to hurry up. I am so excited. :) :) :)!!!!

Hiya,
I bet you're very excited - we're able to bring our dane puppy home in about 5 weeks and we're going down to see him on Wednesday - I can't wait... pictures just aren't the same :) What breed is your puppy?

Yes i am we have waited so long. It's a golden retriever but as i said we are having a little difficulty deciding on the sex, hopefully if we see them in the next few days we will be able to decide and won't inconvenience the breeder any longer. So you have 5 weeks to wait Sharon, is this your first dog or are you experienced? Hope you enjoy your new puppy.

Just wait and see which one you really like, then ask if its a boy or a girl - youre in the best position if you dont mind either way.

Hiya, I am very excited, but I also have a golden retreiver, Baillie, who was 6 past in March. He's a brilliant dog - and retreiver puppies are so adorable:)
As for sex - I've never had a bitch, all of our dogs, even when I was growing up were always male - not that I wouldn't rate a bitch. I just think you stick with what you know! We had the same problem, deceiding whether to get a bitch or a dog, with already having Baillie - but he went down to meet our breeder, and as he's not territiorial at all, she reckoned he's accept any sex puppy - so we opted for a 'little' boy :)
Anyway, let us know how you go with your puppy, have you got any names for him/her yet??

ive had bitches and dogs and, i find bitches more loving and less likely to run away. the males
go and seek females even when they have had the snip . plus you can decide if you want a litter of pups , were breeding our bitch in a year i want to keep a home bred pup:)i bet choosing which one we wants gunna be hard

It your not bothered wether you have a dog or a bitch I'd wait and see how you feel when you see the pups.
I went to chose my first elkie having booked and set my heart on a male. However when I went to visit a little bitch decided I should take her home and it was sooooo hard to stick to my guns and pick a male..but I did.Sometimes its the dog that choses you not the other way round

I thinks thats what we will have to do let the pup pick us, we haven't chosen any names yet but i suppose we should start. Soon i will be using this site for a lot more help and advice!!

funny you should say the pup chooses you .
we chose our pup because she was the only one without a black eye , just to be different . we went back to collect her 6 weeks later and they were all asleep this pup walked over all the other sleeping pups and i picked her up ,we had a good chat with the breeder about this n that , then we said ok which ones ours , she said the one your holding , earlier that day she put a colla on her as she knew we were coming it had her kc name on it . haha.

I'd agree with everyone else who has already said, your in a great position as you don't mind either a dog or a bitch.

Choose the pup or let the pup choose you it's the best way. We went to get a Stafford pup not fussed over dog or bitch having owned both in the past, and Sal choose us but oddly enough the breeder had already earmarked Sal for us without telling us, due to her character being so typically Stafford and the fact she was the ringleader of the gang of 6 pups. 2 weeks later she was ours, and the best dog we've ever owned even at 9 months, she's fantastic.

hi
after searching high and low for a breeder who had a male pup left and eventually finding one and booking him over the phone even decided what we were gonna call him, we ended up coming home with the bitch!!because she took to us straight away and the feeling was mutual, we don't regret it for one moment!

Hi Jackie i suppose thats it personality means more than sex. We have now been informed we can't see pups till they are 3 weeks for infections, but i think the breeder would like to know which sex we are having so she knows what she has left to sell, which is fair enough but i would really like to meet them first.
