Any good ideas for a weekend away with a (non doggy) girl friend. Would like to do something a bit different, were going to go to Cheltenham races but unable to do that particular weekend. Nothing too energetic or too expensive, and no shopping as that is exhausting!!

Any suggestions?

No shopping cause it is exhasting ??? Flip ? Can't you suffer the pain for one weekend ? :D

It depend how far you want to go ? Where do you live, how far out do you want to go and how much is your budget ?

I have just been looking at some caravan short breaks, the parks are all over the country and it costs 70-90 pounds for 4 nights and thats in the big static caravans. I know it's not a romantic hotel but i love staying in caravans. Also on site is horseriding, fishing, indoor pool, cafes, bars, restaurants and lots of other stuff.

Lucy

We did 2 nights in London earlier in the year and we were absolutely shattered - and broke! :D

I'm in Surrey and my friend is in North Herts, ideally somewhere within reach of us both, although she is scared of driving on Motorways! Don't want to spend mch more than £50 a night each on accommodation, although we want something decent so would be happy to pay a little more, and I suppose it depends on the activity as to how much we would want to spend on top of that.

Would love to come home feeling refreshed, not sure my friend would be willing to stay in a caravan though Charlie24, she kind of likes the finer things in life (don't we all!)

Keep the ideas coming

Cheers! Hayley

(Forgot to mention, must be within walking distance of a licensed premises at all times!

Yes i agree hotels are nice, i suppose it's different with a friend, i like dirty weekends away with my fella in a caravan. Hope you find somewhere nice. How about travel inns there all over the country and around 40 pounds per night and also have a pub intow!

Not a bad idea, just have to decide where though

If your chum's not keen on driving and it sounds like you wont be going further than the bar anyway :) what about something out of that brochure that includes train and accomodation I think it is Highlights or something, the travel agents will have it. Last time I looked the packages seemed like very good value.

I have always wanted to go to Ireland, i have visited that many foreign countries i think it's about time i started to explore my own!
- By chaliepud [gb] Date 06.09.03 06:16 UTC
Unfortunately, this time we don't want to go that far (starting to sound very fussy!) although I would love to go to Ireland some time, but would prefer to take a week or two so I could travel around a bit, we only have one or two nights

Thanks for trying though

How about the New Forest, or Sailsbury maybe ? Have been to both for weekends away and both were nice ! Plenty of good pubs and food places !! Not that far away from you.

Try the Holiday Inn website, they have lots of hotels around the country and if you ring central reservations you can usually haggle on the price, If it is not in the centre of a town expect to pay around £60 B&B for two. Assuming you are sharing a room.

We have decided to either do a murder mystery weekend (finding it hard to find one for the dates we have) or a weekend at a country hotel in the Wye Valley/Cotswolds with a few nice river walks and maybe a few spa treatments - nothing too invasive! I would have liked to do a theme park weekend but my friend was worried she'd get upset seeing all the other children.

Thanks for all the input!

I live in the Cotswolds so let me know if you want some pointers on a good place to stay !!

Lucy

Edited to say we can do B&B if you want !! Very cheap rates and have got some dogs to lend you for the river walks etc !!!! :D :D

You lucky thing living in the Cotswolds, I try to come across at least once a year, but sadly not as enjoyable with the children. Ideally we would like a nice country hotel with some nice gentle strolls (NO kids or dogs coming - other half has volunteered to look after all), also ideally with some beauty/spa treatments available, willing to pay up to approx £70 a night, would be nice if near some nice shops, but not too many or Steve may retract his offer - London was very expensive!

Any ideas?

Thanks, Hayley

PS Thanks for the B&B offer, but you probably have more sleepless nights in your house than mine, and that is something, Maddie is still up once or twice a night at 2.5 years!!!

Haley

Tell me where you have been in the Cotswolds and then I can give you some other good places to go. Unfortunately there are some horrible places to go, even though in the Cotswolds and there are some really nice places that are not so touristy which I was coming for a break would rather go !!

Let me know !

Lucy

Edited to say we have got Indigo well trained. She goes down at 9.00pm and wakes up at 6.00am ish ! Not bad for six weeks old tomorrow !! :)

Hi Lucy!

I've been to all the usual places, Stow on the Wold, Bourton On the Water, which are nice, but as you say a bit touristy. I did like Broadway when we visited some years ago, and the Slaughters were really pretty. Other than that I'm not very knowledgeable. Coming from the London direction so something easy to get to would be good, I'll probably meet my friend there but she will have to leave quite early as she will be driving across country to avoid the motorways!

Many thanks again

Burford's nice, too.
:)

I presume you have been to Burford and Chipping Norton as well? We are sort of in between in a lovely village.

Chipping Camden is another nice place, very posh !! Still has tourists but a better class of them !! LOL

My sister had her wedding reception there at a lovely hotel called the Seymour House.

There is Witney which is sort of still in the Cotswolds and it is very easy to get into Oxford for a night out !!

As it happens I we have very good friends who run a lovely B&B !!

Have a look here. http://www.laurelguesthouse.com

You are sure to get a very nice welcome !!
