Hello,

Tonight I went to pick up my mom from Bingo, while I was waiting outside in the car. A lad about 14 or so was standing just outside the door I took no notice but as I was parked directly in front of the doors I could see him clearly. There were about 3 other cars parked by me and each one had a man in it obviously waiting for their wives. Then about 4 minutes later a couple of lads appeared at the bus stop, and started gesturing toward the lad at the bingo door. These other lads were about 15/16 and then two more arrived from the chippie making 4 of them in total.

The younger lad took no notice but they kept shouting it was about 8.00pm. Then the four lads moved over toward the younger one he tried the door to the bingo but it was locked and he couldn't get in I
watched sort of until they surrounded him blocking his exit. Then one of the grabbed him by the jacket, and I think threatened him. I looked at the man in the car next to me and he just lifted his paper up higher, I wound my window down to hear what was being said and heard swearing and raised voices. I phoned the police on my mobile but then one of the lads hit the younger one. I had to do something, I got out off the car and shouted "I've phoned the police" big my mistake because they came toward me, dragging the younger one with them. I went to get back in the car, but one of them shouted "he's for it now" and pulled the younger one down by his hair and kicked him in the face/head.

That was it I reached into the car and pulled out my "crooklock" and ran toward them screaming

"F-----g get away from him now" they moved back about half a dozen steps then stopped. But I managed to grab the younger one by the arm, and almost lifted him off his feet. I think my action spurred the man in the car into action because he got out and shouted at the lads. We all heard the police siren then which I think scared them, and they ran but past me and the lad. One of them went to kick him as they passed but I grabbed his leg and hung on, until a police man took him off me. They caught one of the others too. All on video from the bingo it appears.

Younger lad has cracked ribs broken tooth, and bruising.

What is the world coming too?????

You deserve a medal for going to the young lads defence not many would have done my thoughts about those louts is they should be put to sleep. If it was an animal attacking like that , thats exactly what would happen, and these yobs are only brave when they have their mates as back up. As for your crook lock i would probably have hit one of them with it and ended up getting done for GBH. Once again well done you are a very brave lady.

Karen,

You're a real star lately!!

Seriously though, well done. There aren't many people that would do that.

My Mom did the same thing, she was a cook at the local senior school and got on well with most of the kids. Walking home though, some of the lads (around 15 yrs) got another lad on the floor and were kicking hell out of him. Mom is quite small....but jumped in the middle of 6 or 7 lads, screaming abuse and threatening to beat the c*** out of all of them. Mom was lucky as the lads backed off. It could have turned out very nasty. This lad also had broken ribs, concussion and cuts and bruises.
Talking to Mom about it afterwards, she said she just couldn't believe what she was seeing....and she didn't stop to think, she just had to try and stop it.
You just never know these days whether they're carrying knives etc.
It's a frightening world we live in isn't it.

Again, well done. You were very brave.

Take care

Very brave of you to intervene i think people are too scared to get involved these days incase people are carrying weapons. I remember a similar incedent in York, there was a homeless guy sat on some steps and these too big guys looked like bouncers but i don't think they were, came over and were giving him a talking too, they were right opposite a pub full of people which is where we were, anyway they started jabbing him with short punches but still had there back to the pub, and boyfriend decides to get up but rightly or wrongly i wouldn't let him go, he wouldn't stand a chance against these two guys and noone else was doing anything so it would have been him against the two thugs as the homeless guy was already drunk. In the meantime we called the police, and as soon as the thugs had gone i released my boyfriend who also spoke to the police. The homeless guy would not go with the police to the hospital and it looked like he had a broken nose. It was horrible and i wish we could have done something but these guys were huge and meant business.

Ace...you're totally right. I would have hit one or all of them with the crook lock too.

But the way the law works, yes....we'd have been done for GBH....for protecting ourselves and somedody else!

Absolutely amazing isn't it?!!!

Totally over my head...lol!

Take care

Actually Lesley that's similar to what the police man said as well. Only he said "I should of known odd going on Scully would be around, where's Mulder?"

You just don't think do you as Lisa said her mom did the same thing, you just don't think you act he was only a babe and actually Lesley I thought of what you wrote about your lad being attacked a couple of weeks ago, and thought better do something than nothing.

And Charlie24 like you said you get scared I stopped a friend of mine Dave from intervening in a fight just outside B'ham city centre a couple of weeks ago, because you really just don't know do you these days similar to you and your boyfriend I hung onto Dave stopping him from intervening, wrong maybe but Dave's still alive, to moan at me and if he'd intervened he might not of been as they had a gun, we later found out form the news.

Well done Karen, and I think the police might have been more grateful for public support . Gothboy was attacked by 8 young people last year while he was out with his mate and his girlfriend and I was very grateful a woman took him into her house and called us. Trouble is up here if you hit back or touch them in any way their crime goes by the board and you get done. The brats who attacked Gothboy for being a goth were charged but got a ticking off from the childrens panel. I think being female gives us an edge in dealing with aggressive young males but for how much longer?

Thats really brave of you as the trouble these days is that people sometimes end up getting killed by simply trying to help in theses situations .
I remember when we had the Pub I was in the kitchen working and I saw a man and woman at the bus stop accross the road the man was really battering the woman so I picked up a rolling pin and shot accross the road swearing like a fishwife and ready to knock his head off and next minute he ran off and she told me to mind my own business :( :( he came back after and they walked off arm in arm.
we also lived near a school and the children used to congregate at the bus stop I couldnt count the amount of times I've seen fighting.

Blimey...what exciting lives you all lead....i though bingo was an old ladies sport!!!!
BTW what on earth is a gothboy?

Gothboy is my pet name for 15 year old son who is a Goth - black clothes, black nail varnish, copious eyeliner, silver jewellry, (and thats the males) obsession with vampires, graveyards, seriously depressing music etc His other name is Nosferatu.

Thats so true Karen at least he is here to tell the tale, but sometimes it makes you feel a bit of coward, but fights are not just fist fights anymore like you said you could quite easily come out of a fight dead. Scary world!

You mad woman but well done!!!!

It's terrible how even grown men are too scared to do anything to these kids these days. Not only could they turn round and hit you one but also they could blooming well sue you if you did anything.

It's a shame that there aren't more people like you around and I'm glad to see that the bloke in the car helped out eventually.

Nothing else I could do but help, he was only a babe and he could of been one of any of yours, and any of you would have done the same.

Wow! Well done you. I opened this thinking it would be a tale of blue rinse old ladies throwing pens and bingo cards at each other because one wouldn't share her win!!!
