I took my puppy of 6 months to visit friends and we stayed over night, she was so well behaved BUT she wouldn't go to the loo she hung on for 27 hours, but as soon as we arrived home she went, has anyone else had this happen, what would happen if I took her away for a week?

She will go eventually if you are away for more then 48 hours I had a cross breed who was the same & eventually she had to go on the third day poor girl peed for twenty minutes

Bless her - goes to show what I was saying in another thread that dogs can control their bodily functions to extremes. I would imagine she felt very nervous and unable to 'let go' in the different surroundings (a bit like you or I might not want to do a poo in public toilets.......) It might be worth taking her to all sorts of different places to help build her confidence before you go away again, I don't believe it can be healthy to allow a dog to hold its urine or faeces for so long.
When Chelsea was a pup, until she was about six months old, the only place she would go was our front garden. She would walk forever, but would not go till we got home. When we went on holiday she was almost BUSTING before she would go. Eventually she would, but it wasn't till about six months or so that she was confident enough that she could go elsewhere. She is the only dog I ever had that experience with, but it seems common enough that a few people have written about it. I think it's partly confidence and knowing that they can go other places than just 'their' patch.

My young dog was like that. Not only wouldn't he pee he wouldn't poo either. Or at least not until he was inside in my daughter spare bedroom!! :o I feel it was my fault for not taking him to enough new places while he was very young. He's now 14 months old and though he pees everywhere (god those poor lamposts!) he still holds on and will only poo in an area he knows. Unless he is deparate. I know it will take time, but he is improving. :D
Go to a new place and praise her if she does something. She will eventually get the message if you go to the same 'strange' place regularly.
