I am plucking up th courage to go to a Hairdressers - earlier this year I had a Perm(same hairdresser I have had for 4 years) and I suffered a chemical burn on the back of my neck - I told my Hairdresser, she suprised my by not really being interested, no I didn't take things further, I know I could have, but since then I have been very reluctant to go to a Hairdressers - I had made an appointment recently but cancelled( I did give a weeks notice it wasn't last minute) This seems so silly, I am a grown up(I think) I have been recommended to someone and I know that if I explain to them the situation, but it's just making that call. Stupid me !! My hair's a mess, dead straight and constantly tied back in a ponytail. Oh I've had moan, thanks for listening.

Why not get your pal to make the appointment and collect you? A good hairdresser will do a consultation with you first and you dont need to have a perm again. Youll get a free coffee....anyway it isnt silly to be scared of hairdressers, everyone is scared of something.

Go for it Sweep, it'll really make you feel so much better.
I used to have a phobia of going to hairdressers, and so my hair was always tied back. I'm not completely over the phobia....always find making the appointment the hardest part. Once that's done and I'm on my way there, I love it. Always feel great coming home with a good cut.
Having said that, I am in desperate need of a cut...:(

Hi
Get yourself a good hairdresser, and pay as much as you can afford. Go for a free consultation and see if you like who you are booked with first. I have had the same hairdresser for years and he is brilliant - he always does a good cut, knows I like outrageous colours sometimes, and gives me a free cut whenever no-ones looking. Its a personal experience and you must be happy with whoever you go to and trust them. Explain what happened last time and they will work round it.
Just get them to style it first, go for a head massage treatment, shampoo and style, then go for a cut, then go to a perm specialist - there are loads of new techniques out there now. Enjoy!

My friend once had a bad experience with a well known salon, she had her hair dyed but was still left with roots, at the time we were to naive to say anything but her boyfriend went mad and phoned up the shop and the hairdresser said if she came back down he would do it again. So we got talking and i had said i dread getting my hair done, and after this it just put me off even more and he said next time bring a bottle of wine with you! I thought that was a great idea but just not in that salon. I haven't had many bad experiences, probably because i put it off as long as possible, but i do find the whole thing stressful i can't stand the whole idle chat thing and being left over a basin when your neck is killing you. I have stopped dying my hair now so when i need a trim it's straight in and out!

Where do you go Chloe ?
I used to go to Francesco's in Eccleshall or Stone. I have never really found a good hairdresser since :( The one I did find ended up being killed in a car crash. I now have an Italian Hairdresser who is so insistant he knows what is best for me ! I always eneded up coming out feeling naffed off! I went and his son did my hair last time and he was much better!

I go to Francescos in Eccleshall :D They are brilliant - I love it. Loads of coffee, magazines, good stylists and technicians... superb.
I never found a good hairdresser in Oxford... I booked in at Tony & Guy once but I was ten mins late and they cancelled it!! Not happy.

No... its a mainly female team now...the only man is Drew, who I go to... he's only been there about 18 months I think. I used to go to Lisa, but because she's the top stylist she's about 35quid for a cut

. Andrew is £28 I think.

Flippin heck that is so cheap !! I pay £45 for a cut and blow for a senior stylist never mind how much it costs for a colour !! I must admit I do prefer a bloke doing my hair !!
Do you know whether Bill (can't remember the surname ) stiil owns the chain ?

True - its cheap in comparison to Oxford. I pay about £75 for a creative colour and finish with Drew...which isn't bad.
I think its Peter and Frank who own it, Peter's daughter Anya runs Eccleshall:
