I was talking to someone today who I know to be an absoloutely dedicated rescuer of SBTs this lady has a thankless job and is always fundraising..everything to do with finding homes for the breed which is so difficult as they attract some wrong type of owners anyway she told me that the letter had come out for inclusion in the KC breed rescue directory and once again they are asking for references from a breed club and vets well I saw red ! I am sick and tired of being asked by the KC who make millions out of pedigree dogs for a reference to spend every day of my life raising money answering phones and rehoming (in my case countless Labradors) and what do they do ? provide a booklet of rescues and to be in this illustrious book we have to provide a reference !!!! well im fed up of it my track record and many others speak for themselves so Im NOT !!! going to do it again I could easily provide references I have before from a breed club and from my vets .... but im not Im fed up of the KC thinking up ways of penalising the dog loving public so Im sorry they are not getting mine and at least ten of my rescue collegues and who will suffer??? the dogs what do these people want they are not interested in helping just putting obsticles in the way of genuine dog rescuers

I agree too, however, I think in this age of modern technology most people get to find a rescue if required in any event, either asking on a board such as this or searching. Those people who are prepared to just dump their dog anyway aren't going to be the one who will look for a rescue either!
Congratulations on helping those dogs that need it and maybe if everyone e-mailed the KC with their views and reasons why, they may change their stance?

I mean we've probably all heard the horror stories re people that supposedly are
rescue breeding from 'rescues' and I guess it's perhaps the only way that
the KC could think of trying to 'validate' the real rescue's from these people.
By asking for references from a breed club and vet.
I guess there may be other reasons but this was the first logical one I came up with.

Perhaps another avenue is to have a link from the breed club's website's to the
breed rescue organisations? (Just a thought).

But if those references have already been provided in the last few years why do they need to do it again? I know of many instances where the club offers no support to the breed rescue at all so where does it leave those ones?

The rescue we support never has any problem getting one or more breed clubs to support their KC rescue list entry

I cannot think that a breed rescue could not a breed club willing to support them unless it was a rare or import breed with no recognized breed club

In the beginning when the KC wanted to put a booklet together they were asking people to go in the book for myself I have been in the book since 1995 and have supplied glowing references from a labrador breed club also references by my Vets there are a few all breed rescues in there I wouldnt touch with a bargepole and some breed rescues who can only be described as "Dial a Dog".
I understand there are some who are not Bona fide but they are driving genuine rescue people away because they cant stand all the red tape.
In reality a lot of breed clubs do not have a breed rescue attached to their club dont forget rescuers are volunteers when I served on a breed club they were not queueing up to give their time to rescue only a dedicated few you will always get committee who are on there for the Kudos of being a breed club committee member and then there are do'ers who will volunteer for the less glamorous jobs.
I am lucky in that I have a breed club who support what I do and let me raise funds at their shows I wish this was true of all clubs but sadly some think there isnt a problem maybe its because my breed are one of the numerically highest breed I dont know,

This makes sense of course but why ask for references from the ones already in why not just from the new ones.

I don't know much about breed rescues, but agree there is too much red tape involved in many things. I suppose you could hope that by asking for a reference for inclusion in their book each year, they may be hoping that any 'dial a dog' rescues as you call them may be wheedled out (you never know a vet may hear a bad report about one and act by withholding a reference). Also, although I can see your point, by not being included yourself, you and other good rescues are leaving the field open to the bad ones - many people will use the KC booklet - and if many of the good rescues are not on there, then they will certainly choose a bad one.
