and now feel really guilty
he was in the garden barking his head off and then came in a got in the bin emptying the contents.
I had both parents winging at me and i really snapped at him and smacked his backside not hard but still i know i shouldn't and ignored him for a while and now he wont even look at me and keeps crouching down looking really guilty.
am i a bad owner and what can i do to make it up to him.

Hi Hannah, your human, love thats the trouble! A bad owner wouldnt feel sad about this and Im sure most honest people have lost the place with their dog at least once - I skelped Morses bum for peeing on my bed once and Im not a bad owner! Get him to do something you can praise him for and give him lots of approval. Hes got a fright like this BECAUSE it's not like you. With them fighting and all that recently I expect everybody at home is a bit frazzled. Forgive yourself and normal service will be resumed.:)

Oh Hannah - you wicked person you!!!:D :D :D

We have all done it - and felt guilty about it afterwards - but really - all you are doing is reinforcing his training!!

Don't put yourself on a guilt trip about it!!

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, it's the same with people.

I always feel guilty even just shouting at the dogs! One of my girls always sits down and stares at me in astonishment when she's told off!
