I nolonger own an ESS, she died a few years ago. My ex has one, a black and white that I occasionally look after. I changed my breed to Large Munsterlanders 13 years ago when we were looking to replace our two spaniels in the field. I'm afraid I don't think I could go back to ESS's now. These 'long legged spaniels' have completely won me over, but I still have a soft spot for spaniels.

Hi Brinny,
Do you work or show your springers.
- By Brinny [gb] Date 05.09.03 15:54 UTC
No my reply was a spare of the moment reply really. I have one that is 9 1/2 he is a farm/guard dog and another of 15 months she is just spoilt and the pther 8 are only 6 1/2 weeks old. They are just family pets really, but i adore the breed. Do you work/show yours??

My husband and son are training them indiviually for gun dogs, like you I just adore them I have 3 boys and 2 girls (spayed), my boys are very lovable more so than the girls and also alot more docile. I also think I prefer the b&W as well. I am looking for another B&W but because of the markings I am after it may be a while before I find him.

I've got one - a liver and white dog called Charlie, a brilliant worker, that my son trained when he was just 14. He is a great beating dog and not too bad as a peg dog, although has a tendency to whimper with excitement. Between them they have more days of work than they can cope with during the season which keeps everyone occupied and fit too. He is a lovely pet too and we wouldn't be without him, he gets to live in the house whilst the cocker lives in the kennel. I know just what you mean Sandie, I will be just as particular about markings when we choose our next one, although not for the same reasons as show dogs, just because of personal preference. Next one?? Did I say that? Ssshhh, don't tell the rest of the family!

Hi,
I have 2 springers, they are both liver and white and both from working stock. My eldest is 13 and driving me nuts because she does not look or act like an old lady but has started to do crazy things and does not listen to me anymore and is going blind with a heart condition to boot - this does not stop her tearing off after squirels etc. and then getting lost because she can't find me, she is however so miserable on the lead that I have developed a policy of letting her do what she wants because I want her to enjoy what time she has left. I also have a 3 year old and I do obedience with her, she is also starting agility in october. I am springer crazy and my house is full of stupid springer items, loads of t-shirts, mugs and pictures, I also have a 1 year old working cocker (a rescue that we couldn't not take) but you don't get any merchandise for him, he looks nothing like a normal cocker so even that stuff is not suitable.
