I just wondered if anyone on here has been on holiday to somewhere likely to be hot (I'm thinking Canaries) for the New Year ? I'm thinking of going away for a week this New Year and am looking to find out what the weather has been like in the past and also if places like Lanzarote are still reasonably busy, still plenty of places to eat and drink etc.
Any info gratefully appreciated :-)

Hi Claire
No advice really apart from do it :D I would love to go away for xmas and New Year, but having two little ones makes it difficult as grandma's and aunts etc say it's unfair to take them away for xmas.
My mum goes to lanzarote in January most years and it's pretty warm and still reasonably busy.

Hi Claire
We went to Goa last January. It was hot, very cheap and a real culture shock but a fascinating experience. The beaches were fantastic and the food great. Be warned though - don't drink Indian wine unless you like gasoline!

Hi
we always go to the canaries. they are in the gulf stream so they are constantly hot. I dont like places like costa del sol...costa blanca, benidorm etc cos they are not much different to england. They are moderatly warmer...but the canaries, you will get to the 30's. That is why we are moving out there. Had enough of englands crap unpredictable weather! ( yes...t'was hot recently..but not for long! :( )
I would book fast though. We made the mistake once of trying to get a last minute deal in winter..it aint gonna happen. They are like gold dust, especially to the canaries. So book now and it will be cheap. We are going the week before xmas and we got a week, flight, transfers, security etc etc for £386 for BOTH of us! That between us not each! Book now, the nearer it gets to the time...the more and more it will get. Where we are staying this time has already doubled since we booked.
Enjoy it!
We went to Lanzarote in May, but found it pretty boring, not a lot to do, but fine I suppose if you just want to eat, drink and sit around the pool - we couldn't as we had small children with us -my other half has also been to Tenerife and reckons it is a lot nicer there. Lanzarote is very barren
Have a great time wherever you go

Yes, Lanzarote isnt the best.
Tenerife is great. Gran Canaira is nice too (depending on where you go...as with all the canaires...it is quite barren in places), Fuerteventura is lovely but a lot quieter than GC and Tenerife.
Really depnds on what sort of place you want.
Have fun. (Pop into a travel agent and get some brochures. But its cheaper to book over the web.
Have fun!
Thanks everyone I'm going to browse the net and see what's on offer.
Have to say though, I've been to Lanzarote twice and absolutely loved it. Stayed in Matagorda and went into Puerto del Carmen every night, had a fantastic time. The only thing that was bothering me was I went once at the end of April and I really didn't find it very warm, was a very cool breeze during the day and evening :-( But then I think Lanzarote is a windy island anyway ?
Been to Gran Canaria, preferred Puerto Rico to Playa del Ingles. Visited Fuerteventura for the day and it was lovely but quiet. Haven't tried Tenerife yet as folk put me off saying it was just like Blackpool and was full of thieves ? :-(

I always go to the Canaries out of season. Gran Canaria is great it always seems to be busy and hot i went last years and the temp was in the fourties. I liked Tenerife but found it's a little breezy something to do with the volcanoes i believe. I would love to go away for new year.
