I dont dislike any breed, but the breed I most wouldnt have would be any small breed. I look after minature dachsunds and various other small breeds and cross breeds and they really are loving playful little things, I just couldnt own one and am always glad to give them back to their owners !!

Cattle Dogs ugly?????!!!!! I think they are stunning, and more intelligent that most other dogs!!!
Each to their own :)

Okay, maybe cattle dogs are not ugly, just plain as mud. :-)

I am sure they are very intelligent, most working/herding dogs are smarties.

Plain?! What colour have you seen?! :)

Stacey quite agree with you on Ausie Cattle Dogs, maybe it's because I like dogs with coats I don't know.

Now the corded thing I don't agree with although I do with the Komondore (can't spell again) have you ever been around a ring where they are poooooo!!! When you say they are hard to groom what do you mean?? Of course they would be if you had a comb and a brush but it is quite relaxing when you are separating the cords with your fingers.

I like a dog that looks like "A Dog". In my eyes there is know point at all in having a dog that you can't have a good rough and tumble with. That you can't give a good solid pat to, for fear of it breaking. Apart from that being of ample porportions myself I'd just look plain stupid walking anything shorter than a large staffy and narrower in diameter. But apart from that I quite like most dogs! I have a gsd, boxer, lurcher, thingy cross and a staffy, lurcher, thingy cross. What the thingy is is anyones guess.

Could anyone please explain why a dog is horrid because of what it looks like? Is that not just a little prejudiced? I prefer to take each one on personality and temperament - just like humans!
- By steph n millie [gb] Date 04.09.03 12:27 UTC
Dont take it too seriously. Its just a bit of fun. Im sure that if you had a choice of some dogs, you wouldnt go for one that you found really ugly.
Im sure some people find millie ugly (I dont...but everyone has different tastes) and I find other peoples dogs ugly sometimes. It doesnt mean I am not going to be nice to it, or treat it differently to an attractive dog..I just personally dont find it pleasant.

dobermans, they seem to know that I'm a bit scared of them...
Rottis, lovely dogs but a bit slobbery for my tastes
and Chinese Crested, a bit too strange looking

sorry if I've offended anyone here, I do love all dogs really.

It just goes to show that it's lucky there are so many different breeds of dog, because nobody would ever agree on the perfect one (especially me and Brainless! :D )
- By gundogsrbest [gb] Date 04.09.03 18:20 UTC
anything that is smaller than your average house cat
anything that has a bark that is so high pitched its inaudible
and anything that looks like it ran in to a brick wall :D :D :D

This is why I hate the posts what is the best dog for a family old person etc. I always say one mans meat is another mans poison.

I find my own breed the ideal family dog for me. Now a breed often quoted as being a lovely family dog I couldn't bear to live with (pst, it is a Cocker spaniel :D)

I like my coats abundant, but not tangly, and like faces dry, so most dogs with beards are out, though I love Border Terriers, but they are just whiskery and seem to be able to keep clean gobs.

Even though I prefer my coats thick I have a very soft spot for Dobes. Having been on intimate terms with 6 now from pups to oldsters, and cannot understand how anyone would find them fearsome :D

Couldn't live with border Collies, but again know sevearl really well and love them to bits, same with golden Retrievers.

I don't like hairless Chinese Cresteds, they look like My little pony and their skin feels kind of tacky, and they get spots- ick. Like the powder puffs though.
Would never have a Border Collie, they are just too... 'with it' for my liking.
Bergamascos and Komon... things- they honk! Could you imagine what the house would smell like if they lived indoors!!

Ok, I'm a big dog person but ... I must admit I like Chihuahuas. I met one at Cam's first puppy party and it was absolutely gorgeous, and totally unfazed by my big doberpup fooling around.

I'm not keen on terriers (apart from Staffies) but my pet hate is ... any dog whose conformation predisposes it to eye/breathing problems. Though actually I guess this is a "human" fault rather than a doggie fault.

:)

A puppy chihuahua must be tiny!! I also prefer big dogs. I'm not a terrier fan, apart from westies. I'm also not keen on small dogs in general. Although some are sweet too look at and everything i don't think i could live with one. Don't really know why, i guess everyone is different!
- By Jo19 [gb] Date 04.09.03 22:54 UTC
It was the tiniest puppy I've ever seen - about the size of Cam's nose. It was amazing to see it and Cam checking each other out - Cam was very gentle (which surprised me - I was worried he'd splat it with one of his big hoof-plates) and the chihuahua seemed blissfully unaware that it was the size of a yoghurt pot. I held it for a while and fell in love with it. The person who owned it kept Boxers, and apparently they all got on really well.

:)
