Well after taking it rather slow my Jozi has produced Two sons and Two daughters. They were quite large pups at 13 and 14 ounces and produced with more than average discomfort for the bitch. I have usually found pups to be around 9 to 15 ounces, with average 10 to 12!
After showing no real signs of first stage labour, other than being unable to find a comfortable spot yesterday, and not eating her dinner my Jozi decided to whelp today 5 days before her due date. Well the final count is the two boys and two girls. the first was born at 9:12, then 10:52, 13:30 and 15:12
By 6pm she had shown no signs of having more pups, and at some point I had felt a solid lump. Took her to my vet at the end of surgery at 6:30pm for him to look and have a shot to move things on as she had been slow throughout. He scanned her and detected one pup, who appeared to be alive. She was given a shot, and was home in 5 minutes, hopped in whelping box and delivered a pup.
there was no sign of life despite vigorous drying etc. When its mouth was wiped it's fur was peeling.
So after another 45 minutes took her to the emergency vet, who could find nothing on scan, then x-rayed her and found no sign of another pup. This cost me £135!!! I still have my vet to pay for his time, the jab and
first scan!!!
Anyway the good news is there are four lovely heavy vigorous offspring for Jozi and Sir K! this will make FIVE generations occupying my living room (well pups in bedroom at present) :D
