Well after taking it rather slow my Jozi has produced Two sons and Two daughters. They were quite large pups at 13 and 14 ounces and produced with more than average discomfort for the bitch. I have usually found pups to be around 9 to 15 ounces, with average 10 to 12!

After showing no real signs of first stage labour, other than being unable to find a comfortable spot yesterday, and not eating her dinner my Jozi decided to whelp today 5 days before her due date. Well the final count is the two boys and two girls. the first was born at 9:12, then 10:52, 13:30 and 15:12

By 6pm she had shown no signs of having more pups, and at some point I had felt a solid lump. Took her to my vet at the end of surgery at 6:30pm for him to look and have a shot to move things on as she had been slow throughout. He scanned her and detected one pup, who appeared to be alive. She was given a shot, and was home in 5 minutes, hopped in whelping box and delivered a pup.
there was no sign of life despite vigorous drying etc. When its mouth was wiped it's fur was peeling.

So after another 45 minutes took her to the emergency vet, who could find nothing on scan, then x-rayed her and found no sign of another pup. This cost me £135!!! I still have my vet to pay for his time, the jab and
first scan!!!

Anyway the good news is there are four lovely heavy vigorous offspring for Jozi and Sir K! this will make FIVE generations occupying my living room (well pups in bedroom at present) :D

I am a bit behind with everything tonight, and have yet to write my breed notes that have to be in by morning.

I hope one of the girls is a good one, as the didfficulty I had getting her to be mated, and the over reaction to having an internal exam by the vet makes me think this may be her one and only litter!!! :D :D

Happy Mum, Happy pups, and happy me! :D

Thanks everyone. I thought it most considerate of her too, except she drew it out all day!!! am now watching them twitch in their sleep :D

She is settling to motherhood better than to mating and whelping. I am pleased it isn't a large litter as there are several other litters due this week. Depending how they turn out they are probably all spoken for.

How clever of Jozi to whelp to order! Glad to hear all are settling in, and looking forward to seeing a baby or two in the ring! Now get those notes written! :-)

How sad I am I already have the registered name picked out. bit of argument about pet name, as my son and I wanted Lara, but stroppy teen daughter won't have tha and wants it to be Kara (already have a K sounding name in the bunch), so I have decided on Viva, but neither of them like that, so still hoping stroppy moo accepts Lara!
