I am getting my first yellow lab in a few weeks. Everything I have read is that for training purposes you want to take the puppy home on the 49th day. I want to know if I should bring it home at the 49th day of life (Tues, Sept 16) or when the puppy is 49 days old (Wed, Sept 17) the puppies were born on Wed. July 30. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think it needs to be quite that exact.

Anywhere between 6 - 10 weeks (different people prefer different ages) will be fine

Likewise, I don't think you need to be too exact. I think it probably best just to pick the pup up at time that best suits you - so that you can give it plenty of attention during it's first few days. We picked our Pup up at exactly 8 weeks and it was a Saturday morning which gave us the whole weekend together before my husband went back to work.

I wouldn't have thought you'll be doing too much training at first anyway as the pup has got to adjust to so much and you don't want to overwhelme it.

I agree with the others, I picked up my pup at 7and a bit weeks, on a Friday, so we had the weekend together inc hubby, I then took the following 2 weeks off to settle her in. Your breeder only let you take their pup, when they're happy that the pup is ready to go.

The best time to take a puppy home is when it is ready!!
All puppies grow at diffent rates and some are inderpendent at 6/7 weeks where others take a little bit longer.
Always a good idea to take the puppies home on a Friday as others in the post state it gets the whole weekend to settle in with the whole famerly

Depending on how far you have to travel - try and get the puppy home as early in the day as possible so there are a good few hours for him to look around/settle in before bedtime.
