how do i make my lab puppy know im the leader of the pack not a play mate please help the play biting is really hurting how long till they grow out of this !!!!:)
How old is your puppy? They need to learn to play with us so if his teeth touch your hands go OW and finish the game- keep your hand still or the movement will interest him! Keep some toys in a box or drawer so he only gets them on your terms and invite him to play with you in short bursts and end before he gets bored. Playing together will bond you and make it easier to train him.
The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey will show you.

Even the leader of the pack will play with the pups - but when they get too boisterous he will yelp and stop the game - this has to be consistent and the pup will get the message. What age was she when you got her?

7 weeks
I have been there with my pup. She put me into tears many times from being so frustrated about the puppy biting issue. I too tried many things.
Here is what seemed to help me.
1. Keep a lead on her whenever the pup is with you. This way you have means to get control of her without your hands reaching at her face/mouth. At first, I would try to get her collar to try to pull her away from me or someone else. But, became challenging maybe threatening...making the biting worse. Keeping a lead on her gave me means to get control of her.
2. Have her in the room with you while eating meals. Make her wait until you are done and have cleared the table. Then fill her bowl. Make her sit. Then set the bowl on the floor. If she charges it, pick it back up. Make her sit again. Then set the bowl down again. She must wait for you to give her the "eat" command. Think like a pack. Alpha dog eats first... You control when she eats, how much and etc.
3. Get the pup in dog obedience classes. They can teach you things like you always go out of the door first and then the pup.
4. Don't let your pup on the furniture....being on the furniture can tell the dog they are your equal.
Hope these help.
