I'm looking for some advice about my staffy. He's 14 months old. He's generally well behaved when let off the lead in our local wood but he started to become agressive towards other male dogs ( unneutered) following our vets advice we had him castrated at about 10 months of age. However this doesn't seemed to have helped at all for now he's unpredictable and has started to be aggressive to both dogs and bitches that we meet. He did attend puppy socialisation and training classes when younger. Our vets advice now is to muzzle him.

Staffy's are nearly always friendly and loving toward people and children but in some, if not most, their long term breeding comes to the fore when it comes to their behaviour toward other dogs, particularly males. Unfortunately, the castration may well have made matters worse but there is nothing you can do about that now, a muzzle, if you can find one that fits him well would be ok or you could keep him on the lead. You could try a behaviourist type trainer who may have a stooge dog and may be able to retrain your dog. Unfortunately it is not possible using this medium to give much help as it is necessary to see first hand what is going on and what, if anything, is the trigger for his aggressive behaviour.

EDIT: at 10 months he was in his teenage stage and was feeling his feet, he may have passed through this stage and settled down or he may have continued in his unwanted behaviour. Know that is not much good to you, but if there are others in the same situation, try to wait till the teenage stage has passed before taking any drastic action, and if you can't cope seek the help of a good trainer.
