I found a web site which had a vet on there she has been a vet for 30plus years and she told me that there are an awful lot of dogs today with anal gland troubles and she told me that it is mainly caused by these complete dry foods good old tinned butchers, chappie yes chappie, nature diet and frozen chicken fish ect keeps dogs well clear from anal gland trouble and i think she could be spot on you?

Problems with anal glands are frequently caused by stool that is too soft. Firm stools mean that the muscles have to work harder to push the waste out and thereby express the anal glands the way nature intended. So, any diet that produces soft stools could be said to contribute to anal gland problems. There is a tremendous amount of variance in complete dry foods, so I do not think all of them can be damned.

If i feed my dog on tin food and the like he poos more often and softer, there is so much waste produced i think from tin food....my thoughts anyway :-)

All dogs poo if its more often on tinned food so be it if it stops all this colitis and anal gland trouble there apparently is to much wheat in most not all but most dry food and if your dog wont it the minority that dont contain wheat then you have no choice
