Topic Dog Boards / General / Bandy legs? HELP???
- By gemma1 [gb] Date 02.09.03 08:11 UTC
Hiya

I need advice, urgently. I've been to see a 14 week old cocker spaniel puppy and he had "bandy" legs, what does this mean? His breeder told me that it doesnt affect him and it doesnt hurt him. She went on to tell me that he was born like this, him and his sister (she's been re-homed), his mother had 2 fit and healthy litters before this one, and obviously she wont be using her or the stud again. He is a beautiful little boy and i'd love to offer him a home, but what am i taking on? I know nothing about "bandy legs"? Are they going to affect him in the future? He was running around like a little nutter and he was such a happy little baby.

Another thing i need to know about, i've always had my dogs insured, so if anything should happen they would receive the best care available, would i be able to get him insured?

Please help, i dont know what to do?

thanks

Front or back or all four? it could be bad feeding/bad joints? what do the other dogs look like that she has/mum/dad if he is there/other stock

Hiya Corso Girl

Thanks for your reply. The boy that i saw it was his back legs. His sister, who i didnt see because she was already rehomed, had "bandy" front legs. His mother i saw, and she was stunning, nothing wrong with her at all. I didnt see the father, he was a stud.

Other than his legs, he is a very bouncy cocker pup. Any advice urgently needed?

Thanks

Not sure if this helps but when I got my springer I noticed he had very bandy back legs and at the time I was worried but had already fell in love with him so kept him, however now he's 16months old and his legs are straight so maybe it will be ok with this cocker.

Hi Gem
I dont think it will be a problem I insured my little fella and never gave his legs a thought, they shouldnt cause you any problems and as he gets stronger on them and builds up his leg muscles they will straighten out. The insurance company wont even ask about his legs its not an illness.
