hi all

please could someone help me with my boy, Leo is now 20 months old and is still not cocking his leg, he a lovely looking dog and when im out with him people say who much they like him and then he sits to pee that they just walk off laughing :D

weel my problem is that i want to use him at stud (i have been asked a few time and have said no but this one bitch is just right for him in looks and in pedigree). my question is that can he still do it as i thought that he would start cocking his leg when he was sexually mature (does this mean that he is not mature yet) i know that Stafford's can take up to 2.5 years to be full grown.

his Father did cock his leg but not every time he went and he was fine at stud. and yes before any one ask i have had all the health cheeks :D

thanks for any help

Don't worry there are some dogs who never cock their leg; not many but quite a few.

I have a bitch that "cocks"! She half squats and lifts her leg up and forward so she can pee up the wall/tree or whatever!!!

Both my bitches have cocked too! Right pair of little madams (LOL)

What breed? Mines a soft coated wheaten terrier. Mind you, my male wheaten poos while he cocks and then has to get into the same position as my bitch adopts, so it proves they are not very bright!

Weimaraners! My male cocks and the present bitch cocks even higher over it!

Easy to see she's the boss then!

hi tohme
thanks for that

hi fillis
my older Stafford bitch also cocked her leg and yes she was the top dog, but Leo has been around his dad that only cocked his leg first thing in the morning and then did not do it again all day and his mother and my other bitch so maybe he thought that was what he had to do LOL

fingers crossed he will do fine (well i will find out in the next few weeks)

Don't worry about it - his equipment is being used for an entirely different purpose and I'm sure he will be okay!

Thank your lucky stars he doesnt my poor girls darent go for a wee evry time they squat he cocks his leg and wees all over them!! charming dog he also wees in his own dinner!!

My staff is 18 motnhs and only occasionly does he cock - it must be a particularly smelly tree or lampost! BUt the rest of the time he just walks along while wee-ing and if you dont watch out if he walks past you while doing it you'll get wet.He never wees in doors but i have never seen him cock his leg in my garden. But his gear all seemed to be in order wneh the bitch came into season - even though he was neatured.

I guess it may be a case of personal opinion?

hi all

thank you all for your reply's but i had nothing to worry about.
the bitch come to see us early on Sunday morning and they played for about 15/20mins, i was starting to think that either he did not know what to do or she was not ready, then she stopped and stood and he done what he was there for. it lasted 25 mins.
she come back on wednesday and this time they just got right on with it.
he still don't cook his leg but i don't care,
fingers crossed it worlked LOL :D

well i just thought that i would tell you all that it did work there was no problems, the bitch had a good size litter on Monday morning and mum and puppies are doing well,
we did think that it had not worked as the bitch held the puppies high for a long time she only started showing about 2 weeks ago,

Hi Staffie Lover
Do you show your Staffie, if so are you going to the South Wales champ show. (as I noticed your from Wales). I'm there with my 9 month old pup Toesy.
Congrats on your litter, are you getting pick of the litter.
What line is your dog from, and the bitch.
Just interested as I'm on the look out for a red bitch.

Michelle.

Hi Mitch

i might be going to the show, if i have the time if i do go i might see you there :).
I don't show at the moment cos i don't have the time, :(

both my dog and the bitch is from Donnelles stock.
i was going to have pick of the litter but have now decided not to as my little boy has just started to crawl and did not think it would be a good idea, puppy and crawling baby a big no-no Tanya the breeder did say that she would run the pick on for me but i would rather weight.
As for the puppies they are all sold but for 2 of the dogs and that is when i spoke to her last night, as far as i know they could all have been sold by now :(

good luck in looking for a new puppy and i will look out for you if i go to the show
