Hi, now I have a Lab i'm afraid youre all going to be inundated with very basic "big dog" questions!! What sort of water bowl should I use for my Lab so that the kitchen floor is not awash afterwards? I've tried big bowls, little bowls, half filled bowls - I am slippin and slidin all over the place!!! Help. :D

there is a new one out. it is called something like the fountain water dog bowl. (or similar). put that in the search engine, and it will come up. not only does it refresh the water, it is shallow too, so it will not be knocked about.
also- try the steel ones eith rubber on the bottom.
go to www.petplanet.co.uk an click on shop. then go to stainless steel dog bowls. these r designed not to move.
congrats on the pup. what is its name?

Stand the water bowl on a folded towel. It'll stabilise the bowl from sliding and absorb any spills.
Can't help with a dog that walks away dribbling tho' :D

I gave up with worrying about my lab knocking over the bowl as she dribbles so much when she has just taken a drink that no matter how solid the bowl was she still makes a mess :(
Never mind at least the kitchen floor gets washed alot :)

i bought a casserole dish when the kitchen shop had a sale(£2.20),as my boys think its funny to throw the water bowl...they cant do it now:D
it doesnt slide either as its so heavy
mel:)
i have a high sided china bowl for my lab, it doesnt matter how much or how little water there is in it she still takes a mouthful and leaves a trail through the house, and if there is something that has fallen in the bowl feet go in first to test the water before it get retrieved from the bottom, the mop sits by the back door during the day to mop up the spills, esp as our spaniel pup has learnt how fun it is:)

Put the bowl OUTSIDE then you won't have this problem!

I've tried everything with my GSD's....and nothing has worked!!
So now they have the big horse buckets.....but we've even had to build little walls around those....bloody dogs!!!! (Mine are kennelled by the way, just in case anyone thought I had little brick walls in the kitchen!!)

Thanks for the replies. She is 16 months old, we have only had her a few months but its like she has always been here, she just arrived and settled into our ways immediately, she is wonderful.
She doen't move the water bowl - just drinks from it. I have put it outside during the daytime but tend to forget about it there and found it empty a couple of times during the heat lately, so thought it best to bring it back in - I automatcially check it every time I go into the kitchen. Will have a search for the "fountain" one. Thanks.

We use a large stainless steel bucket its hard to knock over (floods the kitchen if it is though ;) ) We also have the galvanised buckets in the rescue kennels as labs drink quite a bit. we also have a bucket outside the back door so there is always water available.
The heavy ceramic water bowls are good too they make quite a big one
ive had the same problem with my lab,
i bought two large ceramic bowls one for inside, the other for the garden,
it stops him from tipping it over but still get flooded kitchen floor,
dont think anything you do will stop this problem,
my lab likes to play with the water.
