hi.
I am getting a SCWT. Yey!!
ok- here is the thing. i asked someone on the boards at what age could my pup begin to go for short walks. she said when the pup has done all her injections.
so... AT WHAT AGE WILL SHE HAVE HAD ALL HER INJECTIONS?!. thankyou.
ps- for how long can she walk for?? thaksa again,

It depends on your vet and when he will vaccinate. Mine does them at 8 and 10 weeks but I know in different areas vets do them at 8 and 12 weeks or even 10 and 12 weeks .So best check it out at your vets :) HTH Gillian

thanks. and how long can we go for walks?
Hi Saffy
If your Wheaten is anything like the one we had you'll find that long walks will be needed just to soak up the excess energy ! :D
I know we probably walked ours too much too young but he was so hyper it was the only way to keep ourselves sane :)

Hi - I have just had my pup vaccinated and my vet told me that there is are new vaccinations which means that pups can start their vaccinations at 7wks have the second lot 2wks later then 5 days after they r allowed out.

Although your vet may commonly perform vaccinations when your dog is a particular age (ie at 8 weeks), there is some degree of flexibility (ie you can wait until 10 weeks for the first jab if you prefer). If I were you I'd do a bit of research on this site/the internet to suss out the pros and cons of all the options and decide what you think is best for your pup. You might also find it helpful to ring around a few of your local vets and ask them a few questions, to get a feel for the different options available.

Saffy
You have been lucky to get a puppy so soon - usually tou have to wait quite a long time. Didn't the breeder give you all the information about vaccinations, excersise, feeding etc etc.? What have you called your little girl?

no, i havent got her yet fillis.
Sorry if it sounded like i had found one. you see, i am on the puppy list, and have asked for a heavy coated wheaten bitch. that means, hopefully, eventually, i will have her.
We have not recieved anything from breeders saying that they have one for us, but we missed a puppy by 2 weeks. she was selling them privetly, oh well.

My mistake, Saffy - you did say "getting". Please don't get too excited yet, you may have a long wait. In the meantime think of some names and read puppy books so you'll be ready when the big day comes. Word of advice - no good breeder will let you take home a puppy just before or over Christmas - too much additional disruption to what is already a disruptive time in a puppies short life.

Theres lots of wheatens called Topaz and Amber (most popular for boys was Murphy - don't know whether this is so now). I like Paris and Izzie. Go onto a baby name website and you'll get lots of ideas.
Phone Judy Creswick and ask her to send you the form to join the breed club. You can do this before you have a puppy and for an annual fee (£10 or £12) you will get the club bulletin which is sent out three times a year to members and is full of all the wheaten news. Theres one due any time now.

HI, please ask the puppy's breeder about how much exercise to give as they are growing as another poster recommended "long walks", which for most breeds should not be until they are nearing maturity. With most puppies ,playing around the house and garden is sufficient for several months except when you take them out to strange places especially for socialisation 2 or 3 times a week and to ringcraft/training classes. On those trips they must be "saved" as much as possible - like finding a bench to sit on and having people coming to you to admire and pet the puppy rather than walking it into the ground. Puppies tire very quickly and with a breed you cannot carry, do be careful to work out your walks so you get back to the house/car well before they are showing signs of tiredness.
