Hi all,

My 3 month old Cavalier pup has been having some major diarrhoea since Tuesday. She flew to us on Monday from across the country so there's probably some stress there, but although we gave her the same food as the breeder it persisted. Saw the vet on Friday and got some liquid and tablets for her tum but as yet no change. Sasha has been on chicken and rice with yoghurt for the past few days but I'm pretty worried about her as she's having diarrhoea about 10-11 times a day and only weighs 3 kgs. Drinking a little but nowhere near as much as she used to. Sasha is still her bright and happy self, and soooo lovable, adorable and intelligent.

Should I be worried? I figured if it doesn't improve over the weekend I'll bring her to the vet again on Monday.

Hi, do go to the vet today - and take a "sample" with you for him to test. Have you been in touch with the breeder - their advice is well worth having - you could ask if any others in the litter have a problem and if so what treatment they are having. I would be tempted to ask for Pro Kolin from the vet, which can be given alongside A/B's etc. It excellenty for "simple" squits. Were the tablets your vet gave A/B's? What treatment has she already received. I migt be being a bit "previous" - but is this vet one you know well - have used succesfully before?

Hi Westie Lover,

I did let the breeder know when it first started but she wasn't too phased, suggested yoghurt and keeping her on just dry food until it firmed up since that was what she was used to. Problem was, it didn't firm up. I got Ensol and Buscopan from the vet. I've used him before with my other dog, he seems okay but a Cav owning friend recommended the vet she uses, who also owns a Cav and she said he was very good with her dog when it had diarrhoea and put it on a drip for 3 days. The vet she recommended is a lot closer too which is a bonus.

Good news, Sasha's stools have firmed up. Turns out it was the change in water! Sasha is now on bottled water and doing loads better. I wonder if she'll ever get used to tap water though?
