Just as a matter of interest, what are the kc rules for how many litters can be registered from the same bitch in a year?.I always thought you could only register one, but was told otherwise yesterday, not sure if it was a reliable source though:)

It's one if you breed 5 or more litters in a year & have breeder licence otherwise you could breed a single bitch six seasons in a row if you only have one bitch & believe me that does happen :(

You can have two litters in a year but you have to have prior agreement from the KC. I did this once with one of my Spanish as she didn't have her first season until she was nearly 3. It's just that as a rare breed and not having enough lines in the country there was a dog that I wanted to use and I wdn't. of been able to use him again as she would have been too old. She was only, 2 weeks short of a year when they were due, but she had them a few days before the year!!

It isn't something that I wd. recommend, but I think in a few rare cases it is acceptable.

Hi,

As you say, it's a sad fact that the rules are not as strict as they could be with the kennel club with regards to breeding. It's not surprising there are so many people out there breeding for money.

Unfortunately if your breed is not KC registered, or you are breeding X-breds, there are no restrictions at all, which is very worrying!!

You dont need prior permission from the KC to register a consequetive litter from a bitch. You can only do it if you are an unlicenced breeder - who registers no more than 4 litters a year. If you are a licenced breeder you may only register one litter per bitch in any 12 month period. You do need permission from the KC to register a litter from a bitch that may whelp after her eighth birthday. Permission is rarely given.

I am fairly sure this is up to date and correct. Fingers crossed :-)

Hey Westielover I didn't know that, I just presumed it was something that everybody had to do, so I contacted the Kennel Club. I also had a bitch who was due to have her pups at the age of 8 years and 2 weeks and I seeked KC permission for this too. Wasn't easy as I didn't realise that they don't have some of their meetings in the summer months and I mated her as it was going closer and closer to the time and a few KC people told me to chance it. I did and luckily it was accepted, I think, because it was a rare breed and the male was a new line for us.

I have to say that the litter was one of the best that I;ve had, don't you agree Briedog!!
