- By steph n millie [gb] Date 26.08.03 20:56 UTC
I am so sick and tired of broken glass on the pavement!! Drives me mad! On more than one occasion I have had to pick bits out of the dog's feet!! Why are people so bl**dy thick!!

Next time I see someone throwing glass down on the floor Im gonna smack 'em one!! So fed up with it!!!
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 26.08.03 21:11 UTC
True, true. Just make sure the glass is on the pavement in case you get stuck.....

I couldn t agree more with you Steph!!
I was over the beach swimming with Bandit we started to come into shore when a nice couple warned me that some youths had smashed glass to near where Bandit and i was sitting. What is wrong with people?
Don't they have something better to do?

Same here Xanthe....

I was swimming with Toro, and some people told me that some idiots had been smashing glass near where my towel was.
I couldn't believe it when I got back...my towel was covered in glass. The little sods had obviously made a run for it.

It's so annoying. Why don't they just go out and get a life, and leave us alone?
It's come to something when you can't go for a nice peaceful swim without idiots like that ruining things.

Take care

People moan about dog-poo everywhere, but surely broken glass is far more dangerous? I've spent a fortune at the vet having badly cut feet patched up. It makes me livid with these stupid people.

It makes my blood boil when I see broken glass, it took my Goldie 3 months to recover from a cut to her pad plus the cost for an op !!!! These people couldn't care less what damage they are doing.

Totally agree!

In the context of anti-dog people who think all dog owners neglect to poop-scoop: I took Cam for a walk on Monday in our local park and TWICE had to remove a used nappy (???) from his mouth. Now that really is scemmy! What sort of person leaves a flipping nappy behind on a picnic?

Feel better after that little rant!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.08.03 19:30 UTC
The same sort of person who left a used nappy on a shelf in our local Jollye's store, tucked behind the fish food!

Changing the subject slightly.

I had a walk on our local beach today, alone because dogs are banned from Easter till October. Its a very popular beach, and to be honest its a disgrace, its covered in litter. fag ends left over barbecues, behind some rocks there's a pile of Human excrement, (haven't they heard of poo bags) and they ban dogs , I think its the Humans that need educating and banning.

I agree with Robert - We should run 'Acceptable Human Being' classes :)
I was driving behind this pratt this morning, when he just tossed out an empty, glass juice bottle from his car window - He was obviously aiming for the bushes, missed and it smashed all over the pavement. I couldn't believe it! Not a thought for anyone using the pavement! People or Dogs
What a plonker :( I should have taken down his number and reported him... but who'd care?

Absolutely!
I have had so much trouble trying to find dog friendly beaches..but of course, its perfectly ok to chuck old nappies, condoms, drink cans, bottles etc everywhere....thats fine of course!!
What is up with people??!! Dogs create far less mess than a lot of people!! It drives me barmy!!!

Oh, and to add, out of the window of my house I heard some young git throwing a glass bottle (i would assume it to be a bottle) onto the street for fun....fun??...thats fun is it....get a life you sad idiots!!! Next time you can pay my vets bill!!!

Well I have to say it all makes me mad :(, most dogs are cleaner than the majority of these people but who gets penalised?? yup - the dog owner

In our locale we have tango alley - have to tango down there to avoid the dog mess that some owners just can't resist sharing with the rest of us ( if its so b$%%$& priceless why not take it home ??) and then there's the bit by the local school - glass all the way !!!
What beats me is why these people think its sooo clever to smash bottles and lightbulbs (yup - try picking lighbulb glass out of your pups feet :( )

Robert - I think you're lucky dogs are banned from the beach - heaven knows what they'd pickup or catch

On our local TV (westcountry) last night there was a half hour prog devoted to the problems of dog mess, and potential solutions to it. The conclusions they seemed to come to was that people just don't like seeing dog mess (fair enough) but these same people are happy to look at horse mess and cow mess, and town folk even like the smell of cow mess, (strange). And while there is a health risk from dog mess, contact with dogs can reduce the health risk slightly, but the greatest risk is actually from wild animal mess, fox's in particular (chance for the hunting folk here). They said that the subject of dog mess has been blown out of proportion, to the point that you can drop as much litter as you wish and people won't give you a second glance, but woe betide you if your dog poops, even if you do pick it up, you are then a social paraih (sp)
They also interviewed a local council leader who said they had no plans of employing more dog wardens to go out and fine people who didn't pick up, but if they did employ more wardens they would be used to go out and educate people to become more responsible, there by picking up after there dogs, (seems very sensible to me).
An interesting point made, was that letters to members of parliment and local councils complaining about dog mess far out weigh letters concerning other subjects such as the Euro and service for local people etc ( a case of priorities in the wrong place here, perhaps)
One thing I noticed, although it may have just been a case of programme editing, the people arguing against the blanket ban of dogs in public places seemed to put a reasonable arguement with evidence to back them up, where as the people against dogs trotted out the same old cliches and came across as tyranical little party poopers.

That reminds me of the time I had my nephew staying for the weekend and Moose as a puppy decided to nick a nappy in a nappy sack (full of poo well it had to be) and run under our bed whilst we were out of sight ! It was months of me complaining of a funny smell that we finally found the offending article under the piles of junk we had under the bed !! :eek

Hence we have nothing under our bed now :D

Luckily none of my girls have had glass in there pads but thorns from somebody cutting a hawthorn bush and not clearing up after themselves has been known ! :(

I know all about the problem of broken glass on pavements as I live right across the road from a pub and every weekend there are bottles and glasses broken all over the pavements. You need to teach your dogs how to play hopscotch just to get them outside for a walk

The main pathway in our estate, leading to the primary school is ALWAYS covered in glass !! Have many times stopped and put piece's of glass in a spare poo bag. I do this cos the same as many other's, am sick to death of my dogs having cut pads  The pain and distress to the poor dog, and the expense from the vets, it's infuriating !!
And not to mention, the kids falling on it.
Unpickedup dog poo (is there such a word? ) and broken glass on pavements...AND litter louts are 3 things to really get my goat up !!
