Hi everyone, im slightly confused by the DDA, coz it says that all current pit bulls must be neutered, microchipped etc but you can still own them, does this apply to Fila Brasiliero, Dogo Argentino and Tosa Inu or are they totally banned in which case the DDA see the pit bull as the least dangerous dog, I know that the fila is extremely aggressive but what about the other two.

Dont know these breeds personally but when the DDA was brought in , all Dangerous dogs named were supposed to be neutered. They were not allowed to be brought into the country either therefore ensuring that the breed should have died out . We all know the DDA has flaws and we have all heard of these dogs being bred still.
If your dog is taken by the police as a result of it being one of these breeds then the onus is on you as the owner to prove otherwise ie. that it is not of the breed specified.
In the eyes of the law I would presume a ban is a ban

lel is correct
its not that you can have these dogs if u get them microchipped or neutered and then import them in.its to stop the breed from continuing in the uk
as every1 knowsd theres still people breeding these dogs and importing them into the country.

Another point to add is that since no-one seems 100% certain as to WHAT a pitbull actually is and we now have Irish staffords , Staffy crosses etc it is a lot harder to define a pitbull rather than a tosa etc .

exactly and the worst bit is that anyone who knows pitbulls knows pits come in all shapes and sizes, some look like whippets which are the rangier types and there are bully ambulldog types.pitbulls werent bred for looks mostly (except now for the american staffs ) and so no one can reallly define pitbulls.thats the reasons their nickname of the mongrel of dogbreeds.
