I am looking for a Cairn breeder. I live in the South West and have been offered a cairn but I beleive he was calling from either a pet shop or farm as he mentioned he had lots of dogs available or if he didnt have one he could get it. That put me off so I am looking for a breeder.
I did speak to a breeder in Somerset who refused to sell me one as I have children. I have a Bichon Frise and the children are wonderful with her so i dont consider that to be a problem.
Can anyone help me by mailing me a list of breeders. I dont mind travelling for the right dog.
many thanks for your help
Louis

Hi...
I am surprised that you were 'turned away' because you have children - Cairns are great with kids. Maybe the breeder is worried about the pup being teased by children, that is obviously something to discourage whatever the breed.
I got a Cairn pup a few weeks ago after much research on breeds and breeders - they are fantastic ;).
First stop may be to check KC and have a look at their 'puppy' pages. research any breeder that has registered a litter, and do visit and see pups and mum... actually follow the guidelines you will find there.
I am a member of a small and friendly UK Cairn owners chat group - that link plus some others that may help follow... my own breeder hasn't any pups due anytimne soon, but I can talk to her for a recommend if you send me a private. She has become a friend during the buying process.

If I can be ANY help please let me know, that group has long time Cairn owners in it and has been a BIG help to me, as has this site. This site has a breeders area - check it out for Cairns - extremely knowledgable and helpful people on this site.
Sorry i didn't put 'clickable' links - not sure how to do that - you will need to copy and paste into your browser.
very best of luck, the Cairn is a small dog with a BIG heart ;)

Louis,
Glad you got help in locating a Cairn. You will be able to find a suitable pup and breeder through one of the breed club puppy contacts.
Cairns are fabulous with children. My 11-month old Cairn spent yesterday afternoon playing with my two step-grandchildren - a 3 year old and a 6 year old. She has had virtually no exposure to children, yet she like most Cairns is a "natural" playmate for kids. I have never heard of a breeder turning away someone because they had children. Children are the very reason many people select Cairns.

Hello Stacey
Many thanks for the reply it just makes me more determined to get a Cairn now. Its something I have toyed with for a number of years but have been unable to do for living abroad till now. In fact I can tell you its not a rush decision I have wanted one for around 15 years lol
Anyway you mentioned in your post "breed club puppy contacts" Can you point me in the right direction as I cannot find anything regarding that on this site.
Kindest regards
Louis
PS dave is helping me too above poster. Good to know I am in good hands. Many thanks

Louis,
When I am back at home tomorrow I will try to get some names and numbers for you of breeders and puppy contacts. Each of the regional Cairn Terrier Clubs has a puppy contact person who keeps the names/numbers of breeders with puppies available.
I know it is a long trip for you, but 6 September there is the Richmond championship dog show in Ascot, Surrey. There are always lots of Cairns and it might be a fun day out and a chance to meet Cairn breeders. I do not show my Cairn, I go to "dog watch" and shop!
