Okay so we're off to Cornwall for a week avec le Pezza, we're right on Mevagissey Bay, loads of walks etc. But seeing as this is tyhe first time we have been on holiday with a pet, i can imagine that it's going to be fairly different, i don't want the dog to get bored but then again i don't want to revolve the whole holiday around the dog........ any one know of 'things' to do with the dog, most touristy places, e.g Eden Project, etc, do not allow dogs in, ridiculous i know!

Any one...please:)

Hi Sooz

I read your post earlier today, and have wracked my brains to think of doggy things to do in Cornwall. We go about three time a year, and we take our dog Libby, but we generally go to our dog-friendly beaches (be aware though many don't allow dogs from Easter to the end of Sept :( ) and a good walk and cornish pastie around Mevagissey (my favourite place for a spot of shopping, some great shops there for bits and bobs) and we like Padstow too. Quite a few of the pubs are dog-friendly too, however most of the attractions I can think of sadly don't allow dogs.
Hope you have a lovely time :)

Hi !

We spent a super 2 weeks in the Spring in Cornwall, near Padstow, with our dog Polly. I also thought that we were going to be very limited to what we could do. Wrong !!

If you like walking, get on the coastal path. We found that the dog could be off the lead about 80% of the time, assuming he's friendly that is !

Call in at the Tourist Info and get a map of dog friendly beaches, there are plenty to choose from, our favourites were Harlyn Bay and Watergate on the north coast.

There are quite a few gardens, look at the ones which don't belong to the National Trust (we cancelled our membership because of Polly not being allowed anywhere). At the time we were there (beg.May) dogs were allowed in Heligan, Trewithen, Caerhays, Trebah for instance.

I think most of the more commercial attractions which are all the rage with kids probably don't allowed dogs, as we don't have kids this was OK with us !

Hope this is of some use.
Enjoy your holiday, Cornwall is just wonderful !!

Thanks guys...... i was hoping to go to Heligan, so i will check out the dog rules on that one today.
I thought that certain beaches had the may - October ban, but i think i've found few that will allow us to take Perry and watch him have his first paddle in the sea!!!!
I'll let you know how we went!

Hi Sooz,
I found that all the beaches from Padstow to Newquay allow dogs (some even have signs saying dogs welcome!) all year round. In fact when I was down there a month ago there were dogs on every beach. Very civilised.

The Eden Project doesn't allow dogs in, but it does have a special parking area for cars with dogs inside. It even gets you closer than the other car parks which is a bonus. The parking area is under cover and a water tap close by. Why can't other attractions do this, it makes such a difference. Best to get there early as there is only space for about a dozen cars.

Do go and visit it is worth it.

hmmmm, sounds good...... Sandra, when you day Eden has a special car park for cars with dogs in them, how long does it take to get round the Eden Project?.......... i wouldn't really leave Perry in the car for long, unless supervised and with a constant airflow.
Or do they have car park dog sitters??! (i can always hope)
I REALLY want to visit the place, i maybe able to ask hubby to take it is turns.........
