Hi there
I am new to this board, but would like to say how much helpful advice there is on here! I am the proud Mum of a working cocker pup, just over 13 weeks now, and we are currently experiencing some mouthy chewy 'issues'!
Thankfully the furniture is yet to experience the needle teeth, but Peanut seems to prefer my jeans/shirt sleeves/arms to any of her toys. I think she would quite happily hang on to the bottoms of my trousers for grim death if I didn't tell her 'no' and substitute denim for gel bone. In the evening we sit and have a cuddle while she chews one of her toys, but invariably she ends up clamping her jaws round my arm - ow :o ! She just seems to prefer to munch on things she's not supposed to to any of the tempting toys on offer! In fairness she has got a lot better since I first got her (at 9 weeks) and I know I have a long way to go with the teething phase, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good things for teething? Eg any toys or chews would be better, hard or soft? Also I had heard that Bonjela could be useful in the war against sore gums? Is this ok for pups?
Thanks
MJ

Hi yes Bonjela is okay to rub on there gums, my pups seem to like the old tea towel i put in the freeza then give it to pup to chew on you must put a knot into it first then into freeza for a few hours it seems to help .

Ive found ice cubes have worked a treat for me.....*touch wood* he is 6 months and has not chewed a thing! :) He has his full set now but when he was teathing I could see when he was in pain and those are the risky times, i simply took an ice cube out of the freezer, held it in my hand for a couple of seconds to take that 'sticky' edge off it and gave it to him....Make sure you supervise him whilst he has it (dont want him thinking he can swallow it) but because its so cold they just love it....Pup got eating it down to a fine art...he holds it between his front paws and either licks it or holds it in his mouth...At the end of it all hey presto one happy and chilled puppy :)

Ive tried the tea towel, soaked ragger - The works but ive found a simple ice cube worked best :)

Also when you go out leave him a Kong with something tastey in it, he will chew on that to get the treat which not only keeps him occupied but sooths his chewing needs...:)

Good Luck!

Hi Roxanne

Thanks for the tips. When we had that heatwave I did give her an ice cube to suck (rinsed briefly under the tap to get rid of stickyness :) ) and she seemed to like that, so will definitely try that one for her gums. Tried rubbing on some Bonjela last night, but she ended up getting a bit excited and tried making supper out of my fingers :O However I persevered and I think it helped, she seemed to like the taste of it anyway and went mad trying to get at the tube when I went to put it away!
Thanks again
